Stewart, as a person who has driven these cars professionally THOUSANDS OF TIMES, had to have known this. I doubt he tried to kill him, but maybe you shouldn't try to scare someone with a vehicle that can easily kill someone.

Calvin said that victims can share in the blame and that's fair enough. The victim paid with his life for being a macho idiot. Stewart should go to jail for a long time for his part.

You also use the accelerator to steer with the cars, taking his foot off the gas would just cause him to spin out which is not an option in that situation.

Maybe we can wait until the people who investigate crimes for a living determine whether or not charges should be filed?

Or just throw Tony Stewart in jail for life because murder!

human running in front on a dark track seems to be unusual, though. i don't know shit about racing either, but that seems like a big wildcard

Like I said, I know nothing about these cars or any cars in general, but he pretty clearly sped up before hitting him, which would cause the reaction mentioned above according to every person I've read.

I'm not saying you're wrong, etched. He did speed up, though, and given that he's, again , DRIVEN THESE CARS THOUSANDS OF TIMES FOR A LIVING, he knew it would react like that. He had to have.

Yeah, due process and all that, but let's not pretend professional athletes and famous people aren't treated favorably in these circumstances, either.

i don't see how it's clearly speeding up and not trying to make a left, which would have the same result according to a lot of people

Right, but we don't have to assume the worst because famous people are famous either. It's a pretty complicated situation and I can pretty honestly say I have no idea what actually happened or what should or shouldn't be done.

Look at the video again, guys. #45 p clearly slows down when this idiot starts to wander out onto the track.

Stewart, OTOH, accelerates. Maybe this isn't significant, but just from 2nd hand info I've been reading, it seems like it was somewhat intentional.

That was the biggest wtf for me. I still can't believe this guy came that far out into the track

I don't know if any of that is clear, but what has been said already said is that those cars steer best with acceleration. Maybe he was sliding into Ward and was trying to get out of the way? Maybe he thought he was going to hit ward as it was? I mean, the guy before him barely missed Ward and Stewart was right on that guy's tail.

Everyone also says the back tires kick out when you accelerate. I'm saying one guy slowed down and missed him, the other sped up and hit him. I'm not sure if that's significant.

The fact that he's a known hothead doesn't help his case.

The dude who died was clearly an idiot, but we can't even really consider the stupidity of his action in this case. If Stewart was really trying to intimidate this kid, he deserves to rot in jail for a long time. I think he did(again, means nothing, I'm some moron on the internet), but I doubt there will be a way to prove it definitively.

Sorry that I stated my incredibly ignorant opinions as facts, that was stupid of me. I hope the investigation of this is fair, but, again, I doubt it will be.

i think you also have to keep in mind that even though the initial driver slowed down and missed him, that car wasn't wards target. He steps back a bit from the blue car, but seems to move more toward Stewart immediately thereafter.

You also have to consider he's driving on dirt, oversteer is a natural consequence of driving on dirt, so no matter how you view it he's going to have a loose rear. So if he's having to accelerate to avoid someone running at him, his rear-end is going to push out further than if he didn't have a complete idiot leaving his car and trying to confront him. Also, #45 you keep referencing to SK almost hit wArd too, are we going to blame him for attempting to kill him but being inept?
