Cars can be funny sometimes. There are thousands of variables at-play every time you turn the ignition and take it out onto the highway.

The fact that he's a known hothead doesn't help his case.

Or it does help because despite being a known hothead, he's never killed anyone, an indication that he's grounded enough to know at which point to stop?

The dude who died was clearly an idiot, but we can't even really consider the stupidity of his action in this case.

Um, why not? Why does he not get held accountable or responsible for his own personal decisions?

What I find very interesting about this story has been the reporting of it. Deadspin ran a long-winded, constantly updated report overnight Saturday into Sunday. It had the video and the firsthand account as the lead-in. If you had watched the video without first reading the eyewitness account, which later turned out to be a friend of the victim, then you would have struggled to see anything at all aside from a hothead driver running out of his car into oncoming traffic at night. It's a great example of how one's perception can be completely altered or controlled before he or she even sees the evidence at-hand (e.g. see things that aren't really there or vice versa).

I have watched that video 4 times now and see nothing in it aside from a driver running into oncoming traffic. I have no idea if Tony had the intent of doing anything other than doing everything he could to put himself in a position to win (/Andy Reid) because that's what he has seemingly always done. If there was some underlying intent, then he most certainly deserves to have justice delivered to him by the State of New York. Otherwise, this is simply a tragic event that could have been avoided if a few things, small things at that, had transpired just a tad differently.

It's weird cause a person hitting a person with a car/getting hit by a car probably isn't be an ideological issue, but four of the five people in the thread most plainly on the anti-Stewart side of things are some of the more consistent lefties on the board (Barry, SK, pacino, Youseff, with wwry's politics undisclosed).

Conservatives tend toward personal responsibility (ie. Ward put his life in danger), while liberals dislike the possibility of justice not being served. It's only surprising in the near uniformity.

A guy intentionally murdered him with a pile of speeding metal

This is probably the post that people disagree with, fyi, in case you are genuinely confused why people are criticizing your views in this thread.

But conservatives like the whole tough on crime stance, and there's personal responsibility involved in not intentionally hitting a guy with your car.

Maybe a weird coincidence or maybe they were the folks up late enough Saturday to take in the initial spin before seeing the vid as Savior suggested or as maybe a default assumption that a rich white guy is guilty or maybe a dislike of people associated with the southern dominated sport.

I didn't think it was possible but this thread keeps getting weirder and weirder.
Quick Google shows that GoGo is wrong with regards to the Kiwi and the Banana.

This is a more interesting suggestion than mine of a cabal of leftists wanting to see Tony Stewart in jail because he is rich and white
