My answer pre-game yesterday was yes. This morning it's no.

Time to tank hard the rest of the way. Top 5 pick is still possible with luck.

Buckle up at least we don’t have the 19(I’m not doing the math) bullpen fucking us over.

For all the talk about how much we suck at drafting, it was kinda nice to see four homegrown 1sts and a 2nd starting and two other 2nds later on in the game

(and Bryce and Cutch are former 1sts as well)

True fact: that Phillies team scored more runs than any other Phillies team in the modern (World Series) era, and it's not especially close.

Of course those were fun times in the NL, because despite having a team OPS of .825 (!), that also represented an OPS+ of... 93.

And people think the steroid era was silly.

It's nice until you realize Haseley and Moniak's ceilings are probably 4th OF, with Haseley having a chance to at least be an average starter. /Debbie Downer

Yeah, that was the supposed Rabbit Ball year, plus the Phillies played in the Baker Bowl. Averages were up all around. Which is not to say that the Phillies staff didn't suck, because it did.

I am going to say that Moniak looked quite a bit more comfortable than I expected up there last night. Walk in the ninth was encouraging.

Exactly why the ERA comparison with this year's team is flawed.

They clearly had better nicknames in 1930 though. Fidgety Phil Collins and Weeping Willie Willoughby, Sugar Sweetland.

My favorite line from the article was this one.

They allowed seven runs in the second inning, with Willoughby absorbing 7 1/3 innings of mop-up relief. “After that,” The Inquirer wrote, “it was just a question of playing out the nine innings, trusting that no infielders or outfielders would be crippled.”

Your 2020 Phillies. At least no infielders or outfielders got crippled. The video yearbook slogan!

I would classify Hoskins' injury as crippling.

You seem to be assuming the Phils won’t make the playoffs. The odds are still in their favor to make it.

I'm not optimistic.

Yeah me either, Especially with Jake done, that’s 2 more starts that they have no clue what they are going to do

I mean, there are only 12 games left and they are competing against a bunch of other shitty teams for one of the final three spots. It's not like any of them are going to run away with it. They will probably sneak in with a sub-.500 record.

Then Jake can redeem himself.

We're half a game up on the Cards for the last spot and tied with the Reds to avoid the Dodgers, or am I reading the standings wrong?

Winkelman is melting down because of PROSPECTZ. Poor guy is too transparent and it's slapping him in his face. This farm system sucks and I'm sorry you care so much.
