$12M option = Robertson
$7M option = Neris
$4.5M option = Phelps
??? $10M = Odubel

Not on the books yet:
1st year arbitration = Rhys
2nd year arbitration = Eflin, Knapp, Goose, Hale
3rd year arbitration = Morgan, Vince, Hembree

Well you can scratch off of those options. None of those three should be activated. Cutch comes off of the books after next season. Segura gets more tradable every season. The only mess is Herrera. Money shouldn’t be a limitation.

That doesn't sound right. At least not for AAV.

But like Ed said you can take out the guys in red like Arrieta, Robertson, Neris and Phelps.

The only positive with the buyouts is the buyout figure has already been counted against the tax. So Robertson, Phelps, etc would not count anything against the 2021 tax.

Neris's buyout, if declined, still defaults back to his final arbitration year which would require an increase over this year's $4.6M. So he either needs to be non-tendered or paid something in that range.

By my calcs (estimating arb figures which Spotrac doesn't do), the Phils have $62M under the cap to spend on a catcher, middle infielder (to upgrade the projected Bohm/Segura/Kingery/Hoskins combo), probably a starter to join Nola/Wheeler/Eflin/Howard and then a bunch of bullpen guys. Velasquez is going to be paid $5M+ to do something unless he's non-tendered. A CF upgrade might also be nice.

Don’t forget youll probably need a DH or equivalent way to fill those at bats next year.

If JT costs 25 and Didi costs 15 (which may be low) that’s not a lot left especially with teams generally wanting to leave some space to fill holes during the year.

Do they dare roll the dice and just go with the Bohm-Segura-Kingery-Hoskins infield? You'd think by the year 2021 that Scott Kingery would be ready to handle 2B...

If he has a bad year they basically have to move on from him at that point. But you hope he does well, then try to find another stopgap SS for 2022 if you're dealing Segura and hope Stott is ready at some point that year? Though I've heard Stott may not be a SS defensively in the Majors...

Can you sign Didi for under 3/50 and trade Segura without paying any of his salary? That's my answer for the 2021 infield.

Jean and Didi are basically the same player. They're both slightly above average players making slightly above average salaries for their slightly above average ages. Neither is great. What we really need is some cheap productivity out of Bohm/Jetpaxx these next couple of years if we're going to be good.

I’m not sure but that’s probably you’re best hope. You can’t be paying your middle infield $30 million every year when neither of them are young or all star caliber given all the other holes this team has.

Do you also have to consider what Harper will think if they let Didi and JT walk without bringing in some other good replacements?

Not sure I consider Harper's thoughts. Seems like a guy you can sell on a different approach.

I think JT helps you sell yourself to FA pitching because of his reputation. His presence won't make anyone's decision but it could be the tiebreaker for similar offers.

I can't imagine Harper will be happy if his input is ignored. I am sure that was something important he talked about when signing here. Didn't he structure his deal so they could sign some more guys to win?

Harper seems pretty miserable now as it is, though that could be because he’s struggling. Can’t imagine how miserable he’d be if we don’t start putting together a real winning team.

Bohm's walkup music is sweet, but very misleading

Harper would definitely not handle not resigning Realmuto well. At all.

Sure, he's campaigning for his buddy (he did the same thing for Trout), but Harper isnt the GM. I highly doubt anyone is consulting him when it comes to spending money and constructing the roster, at least I sure hope not.
