They need to put him at second base next year. Full time. 162 games. End of story. He's an above-average defender there.

Ben Zobrist has had a pretty good career and he’s played over 200 games every position except 3b, 1b and cf and C

So every position except half of them.

Also I think everyone is hoping that he has a better career than Zobrist (not that Zobrist hasn't had a pretty good career).

I would take zobrist's career, if offered, with no hesitation.

Absolutely.

Pretty sure it's already been taken.

JFLNYC wrote:Kingery has really turned himself around this year and is, and will continue to be, a valuable player, despite his streakiness. However, a significant part of his value is linked to his versatility. If Kingery plays 2B all year it's going to be very difficult to find another Kingery who can play as many positions competently and contribute as much offensively.

Reminds me of Placido Polanco in his prime. Prime Placido Polanco wasn’t an All-Star, but he was a very versatile and valuable player; still kinda think if we keep him in 2005, we wind up winning the WC. He had a career year in 2005 - unfortunately mostly with Detroit, while David Bell David Belled for us at third.

EDIT: Actually he was an All-Star, in 2007, his other career year. :-D

Also in 2011 with us... *ahem* NOT a career year.

I'm in favor of trading Rhys before he gets expensive but right now the return would be disappointing.

As a fanbase we still picture 2017 Rhys but that's not what he appears to be. He's not young and will start getting paid.

Up until midseason he looked like he was taking it to the next level. Near 2017 production ....don’t know what happened

Watching the Nats choke could be fun although at this point, the Cubs probably won't win enough to catch them anyway

Midweek games at that stadium are half empty. Couldn’t sell the tickets if you want to really. I’m taking some business associates. A midweek half Smoke will be worth the price of admission.

Hoya, look into the +$15 on every ticket for chow for the rest of the season. I’ll be upfront with you I don’t really know how it works, and could not make it work at the last game I was at over last weekend. It’s a real piss her it doesn’t apply to tickets are bought a head of the stretch run, and even more so if season ticket seats are excluded.

I think it was the hot first month (which most of the hitters enjoyed) that had us believing. May, June and July were probably the reasonable expectation. August was just brutal.

Unless there's a revelation I think he's a .250/.360/.490 hitter. Good but not elite for 1B.

Closest comp coming into the season was Jay (Funky) Gibbons.

I don't really mean anything by that, I just like writing Jay (funky) Gibbons.

On the whole, I don't think Gabe really hinders the team's onfield performance, so it's a bit unfair that he'll be the sacrificial lamb. On the other hand, his managing style makes the games much harder to watch, so I'll be glad he's gone from an entertainment standpoint.

With a week remaining and the Phils likely done on Sunday, here's a draft update. They'll be picking somewhere between 13 and 21.

13 Texas 75-81
14 San Francisco 75-81
15 Arizona 80-76
16 PHILLIES 79-75
17 NY Mets 81-74
18 Boston 81-74
19 Chicago Cubs 82-74
20 Milwaukee 86-70
21 Washington 85-69

What’s the cut off for losing your #1 pick for signing a QO free agent?

That isn't a thing anymore. It's based on luxury tax and revenue sharing. The Phils aren't in either group, so they lose their 2nd-highest pick and $500K in international bonus money (like they did this year for Bryce)

We just need to sweep the Nats. Hey! It's the Nats. They tend to choke. Wha..........., oh yeah, we do too. But it can be done. SWEEP!
