maybe the constant rumors of a Trump network are true, he realizes he's going to lose pretty badly, but he realizes it's good for ratings to have a bunch of pissed off idiots. so much money in a news network for people that can't be bother to fact check the various conspiracies they believe in.

He'll pick up a big chunk of Glenn Beck's audience I imagine.

However, I don't know if cable companies are really going to offer a Trump News Network, and I don't know how many advertisers are going to go for it either. I just don't think there's even close to enough money in a subscription based service to make it pay off.

so it will fail like most other Trump ventures. He's a bankruptcy machine.

Beck makes a decent chunk of change peddling his garbage over the internet.

A statewide prayer initiative focusing on the oil fields and beleaguered energy industry will culminate Oct. 13 with an annual breakfast in downtown Oklahoma City.

Hubbard said Gov. Mary Fallin has proclaimed Oct. 13 as Oilfield Prayer Day to raise awareness about the initiative.

He said he wants churches to pray for people whose livelihood is directly connected the oil patch and energy industry, and also for schools, mental health agencies and other businesses and organizations indirectly affected by the energy industry downturn.

He said more important than the lack of money and resources is a lack of hope that can be pervasive in stressful economic times.

“The thing we need right now more than finances is hope, and the only hope is from the Lord,” Beddow said.

as long as they realize faith isn't the only avenue towards improvement, I think it's fine. rain dances are fine too.

I don't have any problem with prayer or rain dances, really, but it's just crazy that they don't see the real problems and the real causes. In this case, it seems like their quest for "hope" is keeping them from acting in ways that might be more likely to help, such as retraining in alternative and env-friendly forms of energy.

Truthfully, I'm probably just more sickened by a state getting together to pray for the energy industry, an industry that doesn't give two shits about them or their families.

this is just mostly just a way to push oil industry ideas. Their next event on November 2nd is from noted meteorlogist Dr Neal Frank:
Dr. Neal Frank spoke at the OCF Houston chapter. In addition to giving his testimony of how he came to Christ he gives a detailed analysis of the global warming facts. The so called "settled Science" is far from it. The facts don't point to man's influence. Listen to his talk here.

The part I'll never understand is why oil and coal industry workers are entitled to lifetime jobs. Doesn't seem conservative.

The thing about oilfield work is it's quite lucrative for people with few skills. The work is hard and dangerous, to be sure, and much of means working in not especially nice places. But the reality is the oil industry has in fact given a lot of people with not a lot of education a decent job. Obviously, it's not out of kindness or generosity, but it's never fun when good paying jobs go away--those people are not likely to land on their feet doing something else.

As far as diversification, I think it's Oklahoma where they have a ton of wind based power generation. So does Texas for that matter. To be sure, economic diversification sounds like something Oklahoma should do, but it's not other places haven't been unsuccessful with similar problems.

Should I be blaming Democrats? How hard is it to explain how much better a new clean energy operation would be for a coal town than prolonging its death wheeze

we should clarify what a 'decent job' is, though. a decent job in the context of employment is not necessarily an oil job or a coal job or a supermarket job, it's a job that pays the bills and has good benefits. that can technically be any job. we shouldn't be averse to trying to making this differentiation as we are in a service economy more than an industrial one.

We can always turn our coal towns into movie sets and museums, like the town my dad grew up in.

Good.

What soured me on Bush was the fact that after hearing what Trump had just told him on the bus, the first thing he does is ask the actress to give Trump a hug. That was cringeworthy and disgusting.
