It's simple. For Trump, it isn't about achieving a strategic goal. The man has no capability of setting long-term goals and meeting them through deliberate planning and strategy. For him, everything comes down to machismo and his instincts.

In this environment, he feels under attack so he's going to go Alpha Male Silverback Gorilla on everyone else until he either gets his way or is officially toppled from power.

I love that the R's unholy alliance with Trump is likely going to blow up in their face in the most spectacular fashion.
