What makes the clip even stranger is that Conway made the remarks unprompted. The panel was discussing women in the military and how much physical strength female soldiers should have compared to their male counterparts. The point about rape seemingly came out of left field.

The problem with this is the Mexican president might not dress him down like a rational human being. He's already compared Trump to Hitler and Mussolini. If he goes over the top for his domestic audience with whom he is currently unpopular, it would leave Trump some room to make his position look quasi-normal, and generally speaking American voters aren't gonna be too enthused about a foreign leader launching gratuitous attacks on an American.

Trump would probably find a way to screw that up too, but the Mexican president's motives in bringing Trump down there might work in Trump's favor.

Was there favoritism? Probably, yes. But laws were not broken. It seems all the targeted Republican state senate candidates had a big TV shoot recently, as they’ve all posted their first ads online in the past few weeks. The ads themselves are so-so at best, but you rarely see very creative TV spots at the statehouse level. Each starts with the candidate talking directly to the camera in front of a plain white background, explaining their biographical background before explaining all the terrible problems in Iowa that they’ll go to Des Moines to fix (see links to all at the end of this post).

However, one thing does stand out: each candidate is talking to the exact same group of students in the exact same school hallway.
