My uncle, who votes Republican every time, calls this the biggest con ever perpetrated on the American people.

I see what you did there.

In all seriousness, it would make a killer campaign ad for HRC to show clips from this afternoon followed by the inevitable contradictory clips from Arizona tonight.

I hear Trump is being advised by Ailes for the debates. Ailes prepped Reagan in 1980. The old narrative about the debates just ahead of the 1980 election is that Reagan just needed to show that he wasn't crazy, that he wouldn't blow up the world.

Clearly Ailes thinks the same dynamic is at play in this election and is advising Trump and steering him toward set pieces designed to "prove" the same thing.

Karen Tumulty of the WaPo is really impressed!

@So far, this is looking like a bi gwin for @realDonaldTrump. Enhancing stature by standing next to a foreign leader and and laying out his terms

no discussion of who will pay for 'the wall'

that is literally the thing you began your campaign on, Donald.

Well, we knew a foreign country interfering in the election could be a huge boon for the Trump campaign. We did not know that foreign country was Mexico.

Pena-Nieto is a complete fool. His approval rating may drop to the low teens after this.

The difference is that Reagan had actually governed somewhere before and had a lifelong interest in politics. If a former actor who had been involved in politics while in Hollywood then served two terms as Governor of a major state was running in 2016, no one would even blink.

It's amazing how our political landscape has changed in less than 40 years.

trump is already being praised for being 'presidential' and 'serious'

all it took was for him to take some downers, give some remarks, and not yell about Mexicans (until tonight)

they are playing the expectations game to a T at this point

people are so easily fooled. they planted stories about him not prepping for debate and liberals were guffawing. sigh

Jon Lovett @jonlovett
The expectations for Trump are now the same as those for a child's dance recital. He just has to make it through without a tantrum.
