You have to realize that, while repugnant to all good people including the Dig, picking on a vulnerable minority actually makes for good politics. As my good friend Chris Cillizza noted, stirring up racial hatred is simply smart politics as it helps Republicans win primaries. Under my model of the 2016 GOP electorate, I estimate about 10% of voters are firmly in the “crypto-fascist” camp. These folks like private gun ownership, crisp uniforms, and racist vigilantism — and they want a candidate who echoes those values. With the Presidential primary as close as it’s ever been, it would be a death sentence for any candidate to abandon these voters by coming out against the pogroms and race war they fervently want.

I honestly can't believe how long Trump has hung up there, along with Carson. I keep thinking they will falter, but the tea partiers seem to have completely taken over the party. I'm now of the mind that we should give those people a loud voice, a megaphone even, so they can let everyone know what kind of people are driving the agenda for the Grand Old party. Actually they should change the name of the party to the old grand dad shaking his fist at everything party.
I guess this isn't the first time that blatant open racism has had a voice in american politics, but I'm still shocked at the brazenness of it all. I mean, the guy in the lead less than a year from the election is openly calling for people to be forced to carry cards. They are so obsessed with calling liberals nazis, yet they don't see the irony.

"who cares if i forward a hateful and self-defeating ideology as long as i can keep getting elected to cut taxes on the wealthy and make sure poor women don't have easy access to healthcare!"
