I mean it really is amazing how one sided that agreement has been economically and yet it seemingly hasn't benefited Mexico enough to keep its people from wanting to escape

David Duke endorsed Trump. I wonder if the Koch brothers made him do it.

well said, Bucky. They say he's an extremist who doesn't represent their party, but they rush to right to be like him as his poll numbers rise. Go Donald, let the people see who they really are.

In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How'd that go?"

Feels like it's kinda peculiar how reactionary extremists miss that that cautionary analogy about extremism is, essentially, about them

Yeah unless I'm missing something I don't see how he got so much backlash. Comparing people to nazis is generally dumb but this seems like one of the less dumb nazi analogies I've heard.

I may be wrong but I think a big issue with it is the implication that people ought to just pick up and "do something about it".

Which generates the conundrum; only about 7-8% of 'mericans are reactionary enough to vibrate to that call to action. So why wouldn't we want to "do something" about them?
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

I bet you find a similar amount of crazies in any religion. This one just happens to be based in the middle of a region in perpetual political upheaval. As much as I'd like to wage war on them(this would be a much better use of our bloated policing and military budget than the war on drugs imo), there's really no way to win a war on this kind of thing.

Yeah I mean I'm not saying I would agree with him if he fleshed his entire point out, but The information in that tweet seems like a rational point to make. It's weird that he's getting national backlash and got suspended from his job.

Some people are acting like he compared all Muslims to nazis (which is actually the exact opposite of what he did)

I think espn told him he couldn't tweet about stuff like this anymore and this was the last straw.

sorry mo, it's only 'rational' in the most naive context. there's only one thing that 'fact' was intended for: to stir up muslim hatred.

it's not rational at all it's a typical "slippery slope" logical fallacy.

i mean, the only way ISIS/any radical islamic group could ever become big enough to cause nearly as much damage as the nazis did is if western society continues to demonize/marginalize them. not hard to convince someone to fight against a society that makes them all sound like they're a step away from blowing up a building.

Schilling's assenting to (I'm not he really thought it through until ESPN "explained" to him that not having thought it through cost him his job) the idea that "hey, its 7% of muslims now, but soon enough they'll be invading Poland". See how not-apt that analogy is?

I'm willing to hypothesize that with a few paragraphs of exigesis you could frame your comparison carefully enough that a reasoned conversation could ensue. Twitter is, uhm, not suited for that sort of thing, no matter how many 9-part bursts Marc Andressen or Mark Cuban emit

But hey, about all twitter's good for is lighting your farts. And if you insist on lighting gasoline-soaked farts, sometimes your ass will get blown off

Like I said, I could be missing something. I just read the tweet, I don't keep up on what crazy people on twitter share.

I thought he was comparing the Nazis starting out as a minority but being able to gain greater influence over time. Some of the tools they used are very similar to what ISIS uses: fear, lack of alternatives, appealing to a perverted cultural commonality, and leveraging fact that everyone else hated them. There are similarities between the two groups, there are also differences of course.

This is also a great point:

I don't believer you're really missing anything, Mo. My feeling is the objection to Shilling's lit fartgas message is less its diagnosis than the implied prescription - which I don't believe Shilling actually understood is implied in that particular fartgassery

Now this is an interesting article on Jeb's faltering candidacy, the history of political dynasties, and the fading memory of an old split in the GOP between Eastern elites, Western libertarians and Southern social crusaders.
