Hoya - any guess as to how the minimum wage vote is going to turn out today? I have a feeling it is going to pass and then supporters are going to wonder what the fuck they were thinking in a few years.

I think the polling has it passing by about a 2-1 margin.

I don't think it's good policy, but beyond that, it's a weird freaking thing that it can be written into the state constitution with a simple majority vote in a referendum.

Agree 100%; any change THAT significant really should require a super majority similar to amending the US Constitution (particular given the number of lazy bastards who do not bother to vote or the ones who don't vote the referendums because they did not see them buried at the bottom of the ballot). I have no problem with increasing the MW but I believe it has no place in the state constitution.

So I threw this together to update as returns come in because I didn't feel like actually working (though I think I need to start working now) - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... tZlE#gid=0

Brief description of what's going on here...Columns A-H should be self explanatory. (I threw in some 1s to make sure all the columns weren't showing DIV/0!)

I is the county's share of the total statewide vote this time. J is the county's share of the statewide vote in 2009.

K is what Christie needs to get in the county percentage wise to hit 60% statewide if all county turnout is stable. L is the 66% for Eagleton, which probably ain't happening. Edit: Now L is that thing I babbled about below on updating targets. /no one cares

Everything after that is 2009 stuff, and then me normalizing the spill to Daggett and others so the Corzine+Christie %'s summed to 97% in every county (at least I think that's what I did).

I'm sure there's a way of syncing the reported county vote share and county Christie percentages to update his targets, but it's not coming to me quickly, and I probably spent too much time on this as it is.

My instinct is for the 60% number to come in, Christie is probably going to have run above his targets in places like Bergen, Essex and Hudson because he has more room to grow there and because there are ceilings in some of the other places. For anything much north of 60%, he's gonna need to do that plus have turnout shift so Ocean/Monmouth/Morris and the other smaller GOP counties make up a significantly larger share of the statewide turnout than in 2009.

I'm going to try to keep this updated tonight, but I also bought an expensive bottle of bourbon to celebrate the gov's win so I make no promises.

Do they still do the Eagleton Fried Chicken and Bourbon lunch, and were you invited this year?

Funnest part of election day was trying to work that afternoon after eating fried chicken and drinking several bourbons.

No, I don't think so. I was over there earlier today, and didn't seem like that was going on. But it might have been super secret.

There's a morning after thing tomorrow with Christie Whitman and Jim McGreevey, but I teach at 9:15 so I can't go.

I'm trying to make my way through trying the 10 or so $30-$50 bottles at the local store, and Basil Hayden's was $10 off, so I got that. Came home and read mixed reviews. I imagine it'll be fine, but it's nice that my expectations were lowered.

I've now voted two years in a row! Voted for the councilman who came to my door and let me and my wife chat with him for 20 minutes. Also voted for the incumbent mayor because he looks sharp in a top hat at the Christmas parade.

Where the hell did all the up-to-the-minute health insurance panic coverage go?

California's insurance commissioner Dave Jones said Blue Shield initially gave policyholders just 90 days notice about cancelled plans. They are required to give six months notice.

its a bit crazy. 48% of the precincts reporting have "I'm gonna tell you how to live your life" Cuccinelli leading by almost 6%, but his team is hinting that it looks like he lost. As he is human garbage, I hope he is gone. Unfortunately that leave human excrement Terry McAuliffe. The 12 year old independent is getting a healthy 7% so far, which has to be eating into McAuliffe. Sadly young Bobby seems the sanest candidate, but as a third part player he has no hope what so ever.

Yeah, the only problem with the right wing psycho Cooch losing is that the scumbag McAuliffe wins.

Also, I just voted in a set of races all of which had been called by the time I voted. Yay democracy!
