Had a car accident on my way home from work. For those familiar with the area, I was driving on PA 63 through Montgomery Township on my way to Lansdale, and as I was about to enter the intersection at the Mongomery Commons shopping center somebody in the opposite left turn lane made an ill-considered left turn attempt. I slammed on the brakes and swerved to the right as much as I could but there wasn't enough room to avoid a collision, and the other car hit me in the left front fender and door.

Nobody hurt but my car is undriveable at the moment, as the wheel alignment is messed up, the steering is very loose, and the left front wheel rubs when it rolls, while the other car appeared to have only cosmetic damage, a cracked and scuffed bumper and a cracked headlight lens.

This took up, all told, over two hours of my afternoon and early evening. The capturd on a shitty week.

Yeah, I was "driving fast".

I was at or close to the speed limit (45 mph), though I had recently been accelerating as there was a light at the previous block. The cop who came to the scene made it clear that the speed of the oncoming driver is pretty much irrelevant to the person making the left turn; they have to yield to oncoming traffic regardless. If I was speeding, that would be an independent issue. (I was not issued any citation.)

I will say that this area is pretty dangerous. Traffic backs up from 63 and North Wales Rd. to an unpredictable degree, so there are a lot of panic stops or near-panic stops (I heard tires screech at least twice while I was there waiting) and a lot of rear-end collisions here. I've come close to rear-ending someone myself on a couple occasions.

unless you were somehow impaired or it could be proven that you were not paying attention to the road (i.e. texting, non-hands free phone call, etc), there's like 0% chance it would be your fault. You had a green light which means 100/100 times you are driving through that intersection because you have the right-of-way.

if the other driver doesn't force the turn or yields to on-coming traffic, the accident never happens. if the other drives does nothing, the accident doesn't happen.

you had no choice and followed the rules. he didn't. you win. your car loses.
