The obsessive emphasis on "character" in the campaign process means that I don't think we've had any true weirdos since Nixon and LBJ*. Every prez since Nixon (save maybe Ford) has had some disagreeable things about him and his policies, but nothing that would make you think he's not right in the head.

* -- LBJ was just as paranoid as Nixon, but about different things.

Fella who blew up bus in Bulgaria full of Israelis appears to have had a Michigan drivers license. This could get weird.

So Romney's now dropping 'foreign' in his speeches and they're going to go after teenage Obama for drugs.

High-minded here.

The drivers license appears to be fake, and the guy is Swedish but Netanyahu is saying Iran was involved. Also we caught Ghezali in Tora Bora back in 2001, and he spent some time in Guantanamo. Should of kept.

Article in WSJ today about the GOP SuperPACs going after Obama on Mitt's behalf, because he has no way to do this with out the formal nomination. Interesting quirk. Current office holder can go all in, but prospective office holders are fenced out until nominated. Curious and it defines a messier future.

Romney spent most of his primary $$ during the primary. Obama didn't have to obviously so can spend now. Mitt is raising a lot of general election money but can't spend it till he's nominated, so outside groups have to fill the void.

Same thing happened in 1996 and 2004, and it's a big advantage for the incumbent if they don't have a primary.

I nearly choked when I heard that one this morning. I would've definitely pegged Rush as a dude who reads comic books in his underwear.

jersey do you think christie is going to run again in 2013 or just hang out and run for the prez in 16?

i figured he was a shoe-in to do a second term but this raises some decent points for the case for him to not bother.

If all he wants to do is be president it makes some sense for him to go the Romney 2006 route and not run for reelection. But I think he really freaking loves being governor of New Jersey and he also seems to be competitive as hell, so I have a hard time seeing him pass up the challenge of running for reelection. He's gonna have a tough race though. No Republican in New Jersey ever has an easy race (post 1992 anyway). Even in 1997 when Whitman was popular and the economy was doing well she only beat Jim McGreevey, who was mayor of Woodbridge/State Senator at the time, by 25,000 votes. He'll be a target of national Democrats, and lord knows the NJEA and the other unions in state are going to throw everything they have at him.

Also if he really really wanted to be president at the cost of sacrificing years as governor, I think he would have just run this time.

Thats actually an interesting point. He would be by far the fattest presidential candidate in modern history.

I'm not going to keep hashing on it, but what is Christie? Honestly? 350? 375? I have no idea and I don't want to believe anything I read on the Internet.

Those guys routinely gain 20-25 pounds while campaigning. They sleep 4-5 hours a night maybe, eat mostly pizza and donuts, and have no time to exercise.

If Christie drops 50 pounds in the next few years you'll know he's going for it.
