First Gov. to survive a recall vote if I recall correctly..

Dems (such as myself) want to brush this off (and the WV convict debacle and other such events) as an isolated blip on the radar and not some watershed moment(s). I'm finally getting a little pumped up for November! Does anyone know if a debate schedule has been released, or when it may be released?

Really cannot believe how much Walker won by

Glad pacino can chalk this one up to campaign spending so he doesn't have to address the fact that Merica disagrees with him about politics

curious about "successful" gubernatorial recalls, I looked up the 1st one, back in 1921, involving ND Gov Lynn Frasier. The info is thin, but apparently the central dispute involved state ownership of two enterprises, a flour mill and a bank. Frasier was for them, his victorious opponent against (more or less).

it appears the capitalists won the battle, but the socialists won the war.

Both state-owned businesses, North Dakota Mill and Bank of North Dakota still exist, and are still state-owned. The flour mill is reported to be the biggest in the US.

politics is a funny game.

or North Dakota is a funny state.

probably both.

Don't really want to watch the video. Can someone who has tell me why Shane Victorino is in Wisconsin and why he's wearing that cap?

WI Dems messed up on this. First they really didn't consider 1)there law permitting incumbent to fundraise early gives a big advantage, which is not the case in CA, 2) in a special election, Republicans do much better at fundraising and Citizens United opened funding floodgates 3) if you are going to unseat a sitting governor like this, you can't afford a primary race, 4) re-running the guy who just lost the election doesn't help your chances at all, the guy lost for a reason and trying again through the recall makes it look like sour grapes rather than recalling the guy for just cause. It is strange that the Dem whom the unions opposed in the primary could be painted as a union thug.
We now know that Amaro really is running the Phillies. He and Monty seem to have ignored the committee.

The top two primary system in California proved interesting last night. One of the top Dem pickup opportunities in the state got spoiled because there were two Republicans and four Democrats in the race and the vote got divided in such a fashion that it looks like the two Republicans are going to be the ones advancing to the general in a 55% Obama district. Other incumbents also appeared rather weak.

BE CLEAR: Walker survived the recall because outside money (citizen's united ruling in full effect) allowed him to outspend 7:1, as well, Republicans in general have a much more coordinated and integrated marketing strategy. The DNC and Obama stood back on this, Obama with a "tweet" last minute on Monday. Walker's campaign framed the issues from early on and Dems as usual get out messaged and out-branded.

The fact that half or more than half of America are idiots now doesn't help... ignorance is bliss...

There's been over $100 million spent in Wisconsin over the past 16 months by campaigns, unions and outside groups between public advocacy campaigns, the state Supreme Court election, the state senate recall elections and the Walker recall. Tens of millions of it was spent by unions. Tens of millions more by the Democrats. Everyone got plenty of exposure to the arguments of both sides. More people sided with Walker yesterday than did in 2010 when he was first elected.

If you think money is the reason Walker won yesterday in a polarized, high turnout, high information election, you're lying to yourself.

and if you think he won because of his sterling on the job performance and his "positions on the issues", you're fooling yourself, too.

My feeling is he won because he smells more like cheese than his opponent.

basically what we know today is that pursuing a governor's recall because he's a grade-A douche is not a good use of resources

Nate Silver basically said that yesterdays election is unlikely to have any indications of November in Wisconsin.

Steve Rothman and Bill Pascrell, two Democrats from the northeast corner of the state, faced off against each other due to redistricting. It was thought to be a toss up but Pascrell won going away. Some people were spinning it as a Clinton (who backed Pascrell who backed Hillary in 2008) vs. Obama (who backed Rothman who backed Obama in 2008) fight, but it was more a battle of county bases. Pascrell dominted in Passaic, Rothman didn't do as well as he needed to in Bergen.

Donald Payne Jr. won the special election to succeed his dead dad. He's an Essex County freeholder. Newark based district, majority minority. Will hold the seat until he dies.

Joe Kyrillos, GOP state senator/former NJ GOP chairman, won the primary to face Senator Menendez in the fall comfortably. He'll lose but not be embarrassed.

Nothing else happened that mattered.

new report on doings at MFGlobal. It's not pretty. Surprise!

Team Barry should ritually sacrifice the villainous Corzine, and dare Mitt to defend his "unfettered market" shenanigans

he took out bin Laden, surely he can take Corzine out (metaphorically; relax)

so i googled that the veeps were picked in late august last time. is that pretty normal? seems kind of late.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

Custom is to announce the Veep at the convention. I think there's a couple of exceptions, but these days, since nothing much actually happens at the convention any more, the announcement of the Veep is one thing that can get people to pay attention. (I'm old enough to remember when networks, not cable, offered gavel to gavel coverage.)
