it's why i never understood flying the confederate flag...heritage not hate? remembering what good ol' days? when we put people in slavery?

drunk reactionary posting. looks like it's been stagnant, and lots of construction jobs have been abandoned. so, something i thought sounded neat, but it's not like it's booming.

My understanding is that Obama's sanctions on Iran have been pretty crippling; if they weren't, I doubt Iran would be trying to stand down the Europeans or threatening their own pre-emption. So Obama's doing what Mittens suggests, yet he's still the black Chamberlain.

And now Frothy's speaking kindly of Mubarak, and totally ignoring the fact that the Iranian democracy movement didn't want American help in '09.

Arizona is the pit of suck

their economic fortunes are tied to real estate lunacy, every bit as much as las vegas

it almost doesn't matter what freekay politician sez or does anything there, whether they shave their head or are gay or suck mexicans or work for Mitt

the place is an infernal shithole

(sorry azrider)

drunk reactionary posting. looks like it's been stagnant, and lots of construction jobs have been abandoned. so, something i thought sounded neat, but it's not like it's booming.

But have the construction jobs been abandoned because of SB1070 or because the real estate market cratered, which one might assume has had outsized effects in rapidly growing states like Arizona. Looking at Arizona's unemployment rate it went from being better than the national one by a bit to worse than it over the course of the recession, lending more credence to the state's economic difficulties not having a whole lot to do with a law passed in the middle of 2010.

Cheap, unskilled labor should make a state relatively better off, especially in boom times, but in a tight employment market (and an economic reality where the industry many of the cheap laborers worked in is sucking wind for non-labor supply reasons) I'm not sure you'd expect to see all that big of an effect from some of them leaving. Is there something out there where someone has tried to measure the effects of the law?
