I wish. Was in Palo Alto/San Jose this week. Had a 6:30 flight back home yesterday. Woke up at 3:30 AM (had to drive from San Jose to SFO). Got on my plane, pulled out to the runway...plane turns around goes back to gate. Engine problem. We'll have it fixed in 2 hours. 2 hours later...this is going to take another 8 hours to fix, which means the flight is cancelled. No flights to Philly with seats until tomorrow at 11 AM. My other option was to fly to LA, take a red-eye to Charlotte, and fly home from Charlotte Saturday morning.

Eventually I found a flight to DC that got me in to Dulles around 9PM. Took a cab to Union Station, missed the last train to 30th Street and the rental car places were closed. Took another cab to Reagan. Rented a car there around 11. Drove from DC to Philly Airport. Returned car, took the shuttle to my car in the parking lot. Drove home. Got in around 3 AM.

why didn't you cab it from dulles or union all the way to PHL? Once on a business trip my first flight from SJO to PIT was delayed, so I missed the connection to my PHL flight. Couldn't get me home until 3PM the next day (Saturday), but I had a wedding that day. So I had a car service drive me home to get my spare keys (luggage was nowhere to be found) and then PHL to get my car. I expensed the $600 ride.

I think Southwest has direct flights to San Jose, FYI

Going to Santa Clara in January I think, may give it a try. Service certainly beats USAir anyway

SW does, but the problem these days is that if your flight is cancelled on any airline, you are fucked. Every plane is oversold on coast to coast flights.

Coming down with a cold just in time for my days off.

Wasn't aware that SW went direct to San Jose. I've always had to connect in Chicago or Phoenix to get to SFO.

I flew American back today (JFK to SFO). Wonderful. Nice terminals with legit spots to eat and drink and they use a 767 for the flight. I flew US to Philly last week and wasn't digging it so much.

I've got a crazy Christmas Eve flight home. On SW, fly from SFO to Boise, Boise to Denver, Denver to Newark. It's going to be a long day. Just going to have to get hammered and let the chips fall where they may.
