74mph in a 55 = 97 in a 65- 15 mph more over the limit is really not that big of a difference. And to be 100% honest I usually cruise at around 75. I had no idea I was going THAT fast.

Yes I understand I broke the law even if I- like you- think it's a stupid law considering the circumstances i.e. no one in front or behind me, great road and weather conditions, etc... In fact we agree completely based on that and you saying "just seems like we should all be able to be adults and be able to drive 70+ with no cars around on a straight stretch of highway". I don't get why you're acting like such a hypocrite about it now, though.

And it's my wife's uncle- she's known him for 32 years now and I have known him for close to 10. - hardly someone we sorta, kinda know.

Wouldn't say I'm a hypocrite if I realize I was wrong? You don't seem to care. Hell, you have an expired license! Not sure how this came back to my poor driving record when several others pointed out the ridiculousness of it all.

but who cares if you know him?

anyway, my second violation seems to have VANISHED. He never gave me a physical ticket, and I just requested my driver's history and it is not there. How long does it usually take for a ticket to show up, more than two weeks???

While obviously I've been a beneficiary of special treatment, it's kind of tough for an officer (who is on the lowest level of the department totem pole) to not give an off-duty or their relative the benefit of the doubt. If someone complains to a supervisor, that cop's going to be in up to his elbows, and if he makes a habit of it he's not going anywhere. And at a certain point his bosses will be looking to get him in serious trouble.

I'm not saying it's fair, right or even a good thing, but that's how it is, all the way up. Until it gets the department into trouble, that's how it will stay. And even then, they'll blame a low-level fall guy and it'll continue. Cops take care of cops and their families, especially in big cities with lots of people with more degrees of separation between them. Even if cops don't know each other, the fact that they're both cops cuts down on those degrees.

It doesn't work that way out here. I was a passenger with a former deputy sheriff driving through the town of Stamps, AR, known around here for taking its speed limit very seriously. US is 55 in rural areas, but in Stamps, the speed limit drops to 30. The most shocking thing to me was the former deputy cut his speed right to 30. I asked what about the blue line? He just laughed.

There's a pretty big difference in safety between 70mph and 90mph. And I have a hard time believing that someone can go 90mph without noticing. If that's the case, please don't drive near or around Philadelphia.

If he has a big engine it's understandable, but if he doesn't or has an oldish car it's pretty hard not to notice your going 100.

Yeah my dad had this Lincoln that you would be driving along smoothly and then you'd look down and be going 90 and say oh shit. The SUV I drive starts to react poorly once you hit 85 or so.

It's like a good physics problem: If Phight On is traveling at 97mph and comes up behind jeff2sf cruising in the left lane at 72 mph, how far away from this cluster fuck do you want to be?

I finally bought light bulbs for my range hood. Now I'm trying to figure out why I would ever want to see how dirty my stove is so clearly.

Do I know it's PhightOn? Because, let's face it, I'm definitely hanging in the left lane for an extra minute or two to slow him down. I probably pull up to a car in the right lane and go same speed. Drive a 97 MPH dude NUTS. Also, are my kids in the car? Because if I know it's Phighton, there's no way I can risk getting knocked out by him post road rage (In that case, I just do a light tap on the brakes, just to get him thinking, before I move over to the right).

Driving too fast is dangerous, but being a passive-aggressive bitch on the roadway is a noble cause.

I do that too if the guy is riding my ass especially because I'm almost always somewhere between 5-15 mph over the speed limit and doubley so if he's around my neighborhood.

I also have a shitty car (V-6 tho!!!!) so if he happens to bump me that doesn't concern me all that much.

If you're on a one lane road and someone's tailgating you, feel free to tap on the brakes to signal to him that he should back off because it's unsafe and tailgating you is not going to produce you going any faster.

If you're on a multiple lane highway and you tap on the breaks to throw off someone who is coming up real quickly on you, you're probably also the type of person who acts like a know it all douchebag on a baseball message board because your wife keeps your balls in her purse and you have very few outlets for acting important.

I've never done it on highway, but that second paragraph is oddly specific.

It's my personal theory why jeff2sf is so opinionated and forceful on the interwebs.
