My wife's cousin lives in Ft. Worth, and there is one little area they recently built up that would be considered the city, but I think you'd get bored really quickly there

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they do. Texas as a whole is a pretty important state for technology stuff.

I tend to think that as long as there's like, five bars, I could hang out at them once in a while, take walks, mostly just muck about on the internet and watch lots of tv and I would be fine. Am I being delusional?

Her cousin is pretty reprehensible: he went to UT, and liked it so he moved down after he graduated. After being an Eagles fan until the age of 22, he now talks smack to me as a Cowboys fan

There are at least 5 good bars. I'm no fan of Dallas, but there's a real honky tonk element to Ft. Worth. It's a big city, and it's more diverse than most realize. It's not Philly--the sandwich is likely to come from Panera. But there's lots of places to get beef, even PTK approved grass fed beef.

It's not Philly. But there's probably more to do in the metroplex than there is in say Baltimore

What I don't know, and what might be most important, is how easy is it to meet people.

I don't know Eugene very well, but I grew up in a town about 40 miles away and visited there a decent amount.

I would imagine it's very livable without a car. Lots of people in the Willamette Valley corridor in Oregon (more or less from Eugene north to Portland) commute via bike (I personally never got a drivers license until I was 21, and rode my bike to school and wherever else I needed to go before then), and the cities are very bike-friendly. From my limited experience this is true of Eugene specifically.

Culturally I think it's pretty good. It's the home of the U of Oregon which is a good liberal arts school so there's all the stuff associated with that. It is a relatively small town (about 150K) compared to what you're used to though, so you might need to adjust your expectations.

I have no idea how the local economy is, or what the cost of living is like.

Go Ducks!!!!

You can probably make some extra dough designing uniforms for their football team. Those guys will wear anything. They only have a few dozen right now but I think they're going for a few hundred different combinations.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Speaking of crooked cops, I remember when I was working at Best Buy we stopped some guy stealing XBox games. We confronted him at the door and he decided to bolt, so we're fighting with him in the vestibule and all the way into the security office. When the cops show up, and after lying about his name and occupation, they finally find out he's a fire fighter. The cops, uh, convince, our managers to just let him walk. Cop says "You wouldn't want this guy's career ruined for something like this would you?". I imagine he'd have also have a problem ruining his career if he were an engineer or a cook or whatever? Here's an idea if you don't want your career ruined for stealing stuff: Don't steal stuff. I mean, we would let people go if it wasn't much and if it wasn't worth the time and effort, but this guy had like 8 games at $50 a pop AND got violent. Crooked cops.

I'm guessing both the cops and the BB managers might well have had issues of their own that they wouldn't want to pave a path for inquiry into, but man, if they were so inclined, a headline-happy attorney could have a good time with the cops coercing these store employees into covering up an open-and-shut crime involving a local public employee.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

this whole discussion is mindboggling to me

Everybody should be able to vent after getting a ticket that will likely cost them thousands of dollars when it is all said and done.

I knew this felt like a re-run. Except phatj played the part of the "You broke the law guy" and you were the one complaining that "just seems like we should all be able to be adults and be able to drive 70+ with no cars around on a straight stretch of highway".

I don't know what is so mind-boggling about the whole thing anyway. You can't understand that the families of other police officers get preferential treatment for traffic violations than the general population?

74mph = 97mph. i also understand i actually broke the law.

and no, i don't understand how those who sorta kinda know a cop get preferential treatment. it's obviously dumb.
