so what happens if it's 8pm and people are still waiting in line??? Do they not get to vote because they weren't given enough voting machines?

The places I saw on the news yesterday said that as long as you were in line by closing time you'll get to vote. YMMV

Got back a few minutes ago. It all took about 40 minutes. My polling place was comically disorganized because of under staffing. The voters were all cool and we all figured out a way to create lines that made sense though. Hooray democracy!

fine

break it down for us

I expect Obama to win, but I also expect there to be significant over-representation of Democrats in the actual vote compared to the early polls. This isn't a novel concept, it's happened in every presidential election since the 80's.

My polling place was pretty well attended (maybe 30/40 parking spaces, folks were waiting for someone to leave so they could park), but I didn't wait at all. There was a woman there that was very upset that her name wasn't on the roll. She wanted a provisional ballot, the ladies running the polling place seemed confused. All involved were on the verge of behaving badly, I think.

I arrived at my polling place about 6:20 and was 8th in line. Polls opened right on time and I was out by 7:05. When I left though there was probably 200 people in line.

State law requires it.

Pennsylvania: "All those qualified electors who are in the polling place outside the enclosed space waiting to vote, and all those voters who are in line either inside or outside of the polling place waiting to vote, shall be permitted to do so, if found qualified."

This is the reason I'm glad I don't work tonight. My library is a polling place. I laughed and told them, have fun closing tonight.
"I tell all kids not to use that word. If they're 29 and they win the World Series, I think they can say that.
But I definitely would say to all the kids out there, 'Kids, it's a bad word. Don't say it. And I'm dead serious.' "

By 9:00 pm the news networks will be teasaing "McCain might still win this thing!" to keep people tuned in (this will be followed by bloggers pointing to the conservative bias in the media). Bill Kristol predicted most people will be watching ESPN by 9/9:30.

I went to vote this morning, no line, no waiting. I don't know what that means--lots of folks already voted. I live in probably the second or maybe even first most Republican precinct in my town.

I don't know what to expect when I go vote later on today. My dad is actually picking me up after work and taking me home to vote, so hopefully there's no lines around 5:00. Want this to be done quickly and painlessly.

As for a prediction, I'll go 300-238 Obama.

Heard from a friend that the turnout at State College is very good. Long lines, and most voting for Obama. If the college kids do come out and vote across America, it's over for McCain.

Going to vote right now. Luckily the polling place is a block away and I don't see much of a line yet.
