Brit Hume is Olbermann's mirror on Fox News. Hume is conservative, but he's a professional, and he's not a douchebag.

There's a completely different thing between the people on there to be analysts and people who are supposed to anchor. Maybe it's not Olbermann's fault, since it's MSNBC producers who are putting him in that role, but he's really ill suited for it.

It's a shame, cause Chuck Todd is probably my favorite person on TV, and I love Chris Matthews as an entertainer, but Olbermann makes it pretty much unwatchable.

Did anyone see any of the teaser clips of Obama/O'Reilly? I might actually have to watch that... or record it so I can not watch the stuff in between. I'm not sure why he would do that interview, I guess it can gin up the base when O'Reilly acts like a tool.

I predict the Republicans get almost no bump from this convention.

538 has it 310-227, 50.2-47.1 before tonight's speech.

I don't see much of a swing at all from this.

But thats just me. We'll see.

I did. I think O'Reilly is going to take it pretty easy on him. Which he should I guess. I'm surprised Obama is doing the show.

I don't watch O'Reilly or Olbermann. I really have a hard time respecting anyone who does.

So, I'm watching David Brooks and the PBS crowd, who don't seem as positive about McCain's speech as I do. Even David Brooks seems lukewarm on it.

Do people still look to David Brooks as a "conservative voice"?

One interesting note the Mark Shields brought up was that McCain is the first Presidential candidate in his memory who urged people to join the military.

but we'll see.

10:21 CDT: [Nate] I think that wasn't all that far from being a really great speech. It certainly spoke to the right audience. But, it was undermined to a certain extent by the various sorts of technical glitches. And it lost a lot of momentum when he started talking about the economy -- which, of course, is exactly what a lot of people were admonishing him to do. I think they'll be reasonably happy with it, but also wish that they'd sent it through one more draft and trimmed about five minutes, and rehearsed it one more time.

I think the fact that you and I admired the speech probably means it wasn't a good one, for the Republicans' purposes.

I will be surprised if, barring any unforeseen developments, this race isn't basically tied by the beginning of next week.

What's wrong with Brooks? He can't be thoughtful and a conservative?

It's funny - have any of you heard the old "Crucified by the F.C.C." tapes Howard Stern used to sell? There's this clip where some competator comes over and says Stern is lying about ratings - the guy says he's using Arbitron and Stern starts screaming "I USE BIRCH, I USE BIRCH". Birch/Scarbourough was out of business by the time the clip made his boxed set.

Nothing. It's an outlier at this point. Let's see if something comes along to confirm it. I hope it's true, but it doesn't seem all that believable.

Predicted storylines by Sunday:

1. Palin caused a bigger poll bump than McCain did.
2. Republicans wish the ticket were reversed.

Then by next week McCain/Palin will go back to being invisible in the news cycle.
