of course not. I did. And of course who said it is not relevant. The question, which you needn't actively address, is whether "we" - y'know, as in "we, the people" - are, ultimately, the government.

Laexile wrote:Incomes of the bottom 90% increased 4.6% during this period. What would be a sufficient increase?

my but we're handy with figures today. Did you think to cut/paste the incomes increase of the other 10% during "this period" (I don't recall a a period being defined, my apologies)? No? Hmmm.

Laexile wrote:I thought this was a country where we celebrated people working hard and earning more money.

Party on dude - just consider it ain't a constitutional requirement or anything. And it may be incidental to you, but consider that significant #s of people in that under-documented top 10% are not working as hard as you for their disproportionate share, however you want to define "hard" work (in the case of that upper 10% your definition will pretty much have to explain that it consists mostly of relationship management. Of course they have the 'right' relationships, or can fake them, and you don't/can't).

They - and you - definitely work harder than me, no argument there.

Laxile wrote:Are you suggesting capping the amount of money people can make?

What, and fit neatly into a slot on your narrow spectrum of possible opinions? Not on your life.

Who really cares about earnings, anyway? I'd rather talk about ownership, or control of property, or whatever you want to call the power to make decisions about the production of "valued" stuff (tangible & intangible) and the externalities that go with that - and whether some are more 'entitled' to that power than others; if so, what the terms are of that superior entitlement; what the 'right' due process is for the setting & revision of such terms; whether adequate forms of such due process are currently in place anywhere; etc.

Laexile wrote:Throwing road blocks in front of businesses to bring their revenues down? ....[unfocused digression]....Of course history shows that anything that impedes businesses hurts their employees also.

Right.

What?

"history shows" a lot of things. History shows that people successfully make lots of "economic" compromises that "impede" businesses and "hurt" their employees, but that people endure, and maybe even prevail. The turn of the 20th century workplace safety measures instituted in the wake of the Triangle Shirtwaist fire undoubtedly were a pain in the ass for like enterprises, and even meant some poor women missed out on a great career opportunity. Somehow NYC's and New York State's, and the United States economy managed to survive such impediments - to thrive, even. However does that score anything like an effective point for whatever case you're trying to make?

You make so many assumptions about the way things are that you seem unable to imagine the mutability of the forces that underlie them (things as they are, that is).

Property rights, ownership rights, economic relationships are not the result of natural laws - they're social constructs, human compromises, with more room to change, to be changed, than we conventionally imagine. Why not imagine them then? What's it cost you?
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Friday was Rush's 20th anniversary. The whole Bush family called in. Absurd reading really.

Redstate seems to have mainly devolved into a Rush Limbaugh fansite. Too bad.

I haven't posted there for a while. It has really sucked since they changed formats. I do think the Rush @ 20 thing was kind of a big deal though.

Because cops are messed up? This was critical mass, and while I'm not a big bicycle activist, this kind of thing goes on all the time. I'm not in the mood to get started on anoher big controversy, but the old adage about cops. "most are good guys, just a couple bad apples..." sorry -- I believe pretty much the opposite. And the culture evenmoreso than ever has cops feeling they can do whatever and lie about it in affadavits. The project in NYC still dealing with the 04 Rep convention has revealed 100's if not 1000's of bogus cop reports and worse...

As of last week, this guy on the bike had charges AGAINST HIM and the cop was on desk duty. The might make an example of him, but most of this stuff isn't on vdieo on you tube... sadly....

Like seriously your other conspiracy theories were just so stupid they were insulting our intelligence, but that post is just fucking insulting in general.

To be quite honest I doubt you have regular social contact with anyone except maybe your mom in real life if you truly believe that to be true.

Critical Mass just might be the single dumbest fucking thing in the world.

How better to change people's minds about public policy than to badly inconvenience them and add another element of difficulty to the aggravation of daily life?

It amazes me that nobody (that I know of) has run over and badly injured any Critical Mass bike riders. And I bet if someone did and got a jury trial, they'd get off. I'd probably vote to acquit myself.

One could probably make a pretty good case that Critical Mass is the perfect metaphor for the self-righteous and self-defeating stupidity of the Left.

I have no great admiration of CM, and I'm neither a bike adovcate or an anarchist. I hardly think CM is a "left" movement though. It's been going on long enough that people can plan around it.

Regardless, there was absolutely no basis to justify a cop just randomly getting a head of steam and putting a Ray Lewis move on an innocent biker, and then to lie and say the biker had committed assault on the cop? I can't believe there is no outrage on this from a guy like you Jeff?

You really think that? Whatever you think of my political and social views, you think that the guy whose posts you've been reading here, has a style and content that makes him some kind of nut-job social outcast? You are incompetent then, to even make such a projection. How old are you son? 22? younger? Have you finished high school? You need to calm down the hysteria, and name calling -- and learn how to think and write.

I'm insulting your intelligence by showing a YouTube that 1million have seen of a neanderthal cop indscriminately knocking a bicyclist off his bike for no reason other than he thought he could get away with it. You think people like that should carry a side arm and a badge and be afforded respect. What are you taking about? Get an education. And wake up to the way the world really is.
