Trent, your blackberry probably has text msg too. But you're example is correct -- you would text msg someone who doesn't have email on his/her phone.
Don't feel bad, I never used text messenging until about six months ago, and that's only because my son's school uses a county-wide alert system to notify us of closings. I signed up for everything, so now I get a couple messages a week, usually about bad accidents and road closings. The only other time was for the BSG meetup.
I love email on my phone, though.
Thank you. This is the problem with being old. As Woody correctly noted, work has provided me with a crackberry for the last 5-7 years to make certain my life is unenjoyable. During that time, people started to text message. I had no need for it in light of the blackberry, and didn't quite understand whether I was missing a cultural phenomenon or whether it was basically a crappier tool for sending messages.
