Pretty clear the post gamble part of chip's tenure was toxic all around. Lurie would've fired him short of a super bowl appearance I think. He's old news now, but I'm surprised the pro Howie guys will defend him to the death.

I would've fired Howie along with Chip. I just think the hate towards him is overdone

All we know specifically is Lurie saying Howie did the 2012 draft, which hasn't been refuted, and Howie saying "I'll take the blame" for Watkins and Marcus Smith. (Which I highly doubt he did over the objections of Reid and Kelly, but OK.) That's it. Well that and all the vague Football Guy horseshit.

For the media, in particular, to have this fervor to put the guy out on his ass is bizarre.

A large segment of the town, yes. But this is pretty much unprecedented from beat writers. Could you imagine Gelb and Salisbury writing articles like this about Amaro? Who had a much clearer track record.

McLane is pretty new to writing opinion pieces, right? I kind of admire how he pursues the "gotcha" angles when execs blatantly betray their own message points as Chip and Lurie have done. He's probably realized he has no chance of cultivating a good internal source at Novacare so there's nothing to lose in trying to shame them into being more open.

eagles are actually insane. it used to be someone's job to watch CSN's coverage of the team. that person would keep track of negative/positive things said about the team and then someone from the team would then go off in an email, phone call, meeting etc at CSN if it wasnt to their liking.
