Take your PEDs - Eagles - off-seasoning

Take your PEDs - Eagles - off-seasoning

So the transformation has begun. The Chip-Experiment is over, and we've returned to the old Lurie-Novacare paradigm.

- Most Eagle fans suspect Pederson was not their first choice, but best choice remaining.
- Most Eagle fans are luke-warm but willing to give the guy a chance and hope for good luck.
- Most Eagle fans are somewhat optimistic about the DC
- Most Eagle fans are NOT - in agreement about what to do at QB

It will be quiet on Eagles for a while, unless a deal with Bradford happens suddenly.

I'm on record now, (probably later to be called out on it) - as officially throwing down with 'Da Bratfort

I think given the HC choice, the desire to viable right away, and maybe in the mix for division - and given on paper we should have a solid if not excellent running game, with three young high draft picks at WRs and TE -- Brat is the right man for next season.

I'm sure a franchise tag cramps everything else they want to do - there is now talk about the North Dakota State QB, and guys like the backup in KC - but I think given the choices Mr. Lurie has made and is making -- Brat is the right fit. His skill-set, age, demeanor will fit with Doug.

I disagree on Sam Bradford. I don't think he's the right guy for this team, for this city, etc., even for one more year. Let him go play elsewhere and give Pederson the chance to bring in his guy for next season.

I guess my question to you - and everyone who agrees or feels similarly - is - who would be his guy? Is there anyone out there with a pedigree and or any signs of being capable of being a starting QB for 16+ playoffs that could be reasonably acquired?

I don't know the contract status of Alex Smith's backup. I've heard someone like Lawlor or someone else a few weeks ago before Pederson was even being discussed - let alone hired -- mention this kid. I could be sold on that because of the prior connection. He'd know the system and terminology. But honestly, I know nothing about him.

I'm not a huge Brad fan - I just think he's a legit NFL QB. And I don't see any others out there, nor have any sense of who we could reasonable draft that could surprise and become a guy worth trying out? The last young guys to get a shot were Klob and Foles (Barkley a little). A franchise can spin its wheels for half a decade on QBs that never become legit or consistent or follow a good game with a terrible one.

I don't think the Birds are using 13th overall pick in draft for the North Dakota State QB.

So who is Pederson's guy?

I lived through Pete Liske, Mike Boryla, Rich Arrington - and the last years of Roman Gabriel. Norm Snead was never a star but he was a legit NFL QB we suffered through after Sonny Jurgenson had to get out of town. Not until Jaworski did we have a legit QB again. We were lucky to go Jaws, RC, Donovan - it's been tricky since Vick/Foles/Bradford (Rod Peete and the Detmer boys for the Ray years) - the best you can do with a non-franchise guy - is get to 10 wins maybe - or on rare occasion find lightning in a bottle.

So I'm just reticent to abandon, a perhaps less than ideal but in fact, legit QB. 3700 yards 65% completion rate 19 TDs, with a team in disarray and a record season of drops. Doug/Andy system is probably even easier to run in many ways with a heavy dose of RB. I don't like the cost either - but you get what you pay for.

Moving to new thread...

PSUEagle ---

What are your thoughts on Eric Rowe? He was playing Safety at Utah. I feel like he was not afraid to hit and surely has the speed for Safety. Is he truly a corner and the kind we need to match up with big WRs, or could he be the S you think fits the scheme best? Would Carroll (assuming healed and re-signed) w Maxwell be ok at corner if Rowe moved to S w Jenkins?

Chase Daniel is a free agent I believe.

But what are the chances an undrafted, 6'0" QB who is older than Bradford is the answer? It would save money but very likely keep us out of the playoffs for several years.

Draft an O-lineman first, sign a veteran receiver, and see what's what. Take a flier on a mid-round QB or a reclamation project to replace Sanchez and save $3M

Defense is pretty well set outside of a corner or a safety

If they don't think Bradford is a potential longterm solution, I'd replace him this year with a cheap stopgap. If you're going to risk sucking, it's best to suck in the first year of the new regime.

Tebow's probably available. Fuck it. Roll with Bradford. Or whatever. I don't really care.

They could probably get Nick Foles for cheap at this point.

I liked Rowe quite a bit when the Eagles drafted him...still do. He had a rough game against Calvin Johnson, but the mark of a good pro is mental toughness and being able to move past that: he came through very well on that end. It sounds simple, but confidence and self-belief is so huge in a league where the physical differences amongst most players is minimal.

Personally I'd keep him at CB for the time being, but he very well could be part of the solution at safety. Actually, he probably would fit better at safety in Schwartz's scheme: our new DC prefers to play off coverage with his CB's which doesn't play to Rowe's strengths IMO. It does on the other hand need safeties that can match up man to man at times on deep routes (it's a "Cover 4" base) while still being physical enough to impact the run game: that's an area Walter Thurmond falls short in.

Article in the local paper today said the Eagles can't afford to franchise Bradford without cutting Peters. I think that's wrong, but I'm not sure. Anyone know the details?

They have somewhere around $17M to $20.5M in cap space and a Bradford tag would be about $20M
