Take your PEDs - Eagles - off-seasoning

ESP: Source: #Eagles are trying to strike a new deal w/ Lane Johnson, Vinny Curry and Zach Ertz. High priority for all 3.

i think if we had good depth at the line Lane wouldn't have to be such a priority

He's a young starting tackle, he'd likely be a priority in most situations

We got this far without anyone saying RGx3 is available! I applaud. That said, Bradford is it.

They have cap flexibility.

I am making up a rumor that the Eagles will position themselves to move up to #1 and select Goff in front of Cleveland.

Too soon to try and parlay this into a Vick joke?

Too late, actually. But next time you can just admit you couldn't come up with one.

Yea, I fell face first when I really should have slid gracefully. Much like Michael Vick.

* Offensive line if available but much of this is dependent on the Bradford commitment.

IDK if any of the QBs in this year's draft are an answer. If Pederson et. al. think that one of them is the guy, then the Eagles have to go get him. Because of the lack of a second round draft choice, they may have to go after him in the first round. The need in the OL is great but its easier to find one of them further down in the draft than a QB.

Listen, if the Birds could really get Wentz the kid from NDakota - maybe I could be swayed by Kempski's approach of Chase Daniels and a rookie.

But in the NFL of today and the NFC East of right now - a refreshed Eagles with a new intense defense, and a steady offense with lots of running game which tired out the other D, and limits the mistakes of the QB - seems ideal for Sammy Brat?! He's 28 not 30+ -- I know it's wishful thinking but if you believe that Nelson Agholor is going to emerge next year with "hands" and good routes and YAC, and J Math continues as-is - and RB is a strength and Ertz is at least same or better - that's already a real offense without Alshon Jeffrey or some other FA? It may be possible to find a veteran FA who can get 600 yards and 5 TDs and not need a stud of studs?

I like some of Kempski's ideas about G, S and DT

It is true that the franchise scenario sets limits on our FA. And we aren't going to be able to sign 7high priced FAs with or without Bratfort - if they are trying to resign Lane, Ertz and Curry - what does that leave?

I think Pederson is friendly w Celek and will keep him.
I don't know if Peters would re-structure?

But surely Demeco Ryans and Riley Cooper are out? What does that save in cap for next year?

Alonso is on his rookie deal and is one of the cheaper players.

If we sign a S, then Thurmond is not re-signed. I liked the guy - but as Kempski points out - he's not a fit for Schwartz and PSUEagle acknowlesges Rowe is a better S in this scheme. I'd never turn down Eric Berry - even with all he's been through with injury and cancer, the guy is a player but I don't think we can afford him. It's like when we signed Nnamdi instead of Jonathan Joseph. Get a real guy - but not necessarily the top guy with most cost. (not saying Berry will be a bust like Nnamdi - just saying the cost for performance ratio may better with another legit starter)

Will KC let Peds rape their roster of backup QB, starting LG and starting S ? :-)

Can't afford them all.

I think Bratfort could surpise a lot of people and be Peds QB for the next 3-5 years. But I'm probably wrong. I just don't see a career backup with no real starts let alone 16 and a rookie probably NOT one of the top 3, being the path to future unless the rook turns in to something special and it's always a crapshoot there.

Seems crazy that 2 of those 5 would be DL, which is arguably a strength in a 4-3. We got iffy LBs, iffy DBs, OL holes, and little at WR.

At this point I'm most excited about Segrest just to see how he'll spin it as a positive development

Got the answer today

There are reports that Rory Segrest is going to be the DL coach. He held that role with the Eagles back in 2009 and 2010, before being fired. He went back to being a college coach and worked at Samford from 2011-2013. The past couple of years he was at Arkansas as their DL coach.

I was never a fan of Segrest. I didn’t think he had a strong enough background to be coaching in the NFL. Having him come back to the league after successful stints at a small college and then SEC school makes me feel better about him.

When Segrest was here before, he was teaching the DTs how to 2-gap on base plays and then having the DL attack from Nickel and Dime looks. This time around he would be teaching 1-gap principles the whole way through. That makes me more comfortable as well. It also helps that he would be working under Jim Schwartz, who has a strong history with successful DL.

If Segrest is the guy, I can live with it. Who knows…maybe he’ll prove to be a better coach this time around. I certainly hope that’s the case.
