Brat's salary doesn't really matter in that scenario, since the alternative is to basically punt 2016/17, in which case you wouldn't have anything better to spend it on.

I hear you on that, just think it's a real crapshoot to land the right QB for that 2018 contention.
What franchising Bradford does is maximize your chances for 2016 and provide more information on whether he's the long-term answer.
