This is where I'm at. I thought Utley should have been traded as part of a package to get something else back, but that couldn't happen for a variety of reasons. As it is, I think it's very unlikely we'll get back anyone who will ever make a difference for the big club. Utley is now here and helping to mentor the young guns. That probably has more value than whatever fringe guy we'd get back. So unless we get someone from Low A ball that has some genuine upside, I'd just as soon keep Utley and let him retire as a phillies.

Plus, how could he have gotten two hits BEFORE being down double digits. Weren't they down double digits before Utley even batted twice? And didn't Utley lead off with a hit yesterday?

don't try to figure it out, you'll just give yourself a brain aneurysm

i guess he'd rather no one get a hit if they're losing by a lot of runs. comebacks are for pussies. he's also the ilk that believes that a pitcher with a win giving up 6 runs is probably better than pitcher with a loss giving up 1 run

If he's going to bash Utley as he's going out the door, I hope someone burns down Eskin's house.

That's assuming he'll retire at the end of the year and I don't think that's something Utley wants to do. He's going to be on another club next season, so you might as well trade him for something and if you trade him, I agree, go for a Low A lottery ticket with upside instead of AA filler.

I assumed he was going to retire. If he's not retiring, then I do think we should trade him. I'm not sure if now or the off-season is better. I guess that depends how he performs the rest of the year.

i don't know how anyone could possibly think Utley would retire because of a few bad months. He'll retire when no team wants to sign him, and I don't see that happening until at least 2017 but probably later.

Bring him back to play 1B; DFA Howard. Or split the ABs, it's a sunk cost anyway.

Could someone remind me which pitchers the Phillies got in the Rollins, Marlon Byrd, and Bastardo trades?

I know Eflin and Windle are two.

Lively was in the Byrd trade. Eflin and Windle were Rollins and Joely Rodriguez was for Bastardo
