Trade ideas

Philadelphia Gets: LHP Ty Blach

San Francisco Gets: 2B Chase Utley

With Joe Panik on the disabled list with inflammation in his lower back, Utley would not only provide insurance at the position but also give Giants manager Bruce Bochy a quality pinch hitter off the bench and another veteran presence in the clubhouse.

Heading back to Philadelphia is 24-year-old southpaw Ty Blach, ranked as one of San Francisco's 10 best prospects by Baseball America both heading into the season and in the midseason update. A back-of-the-rotation arm who doesn't overpower batters, Blach is durable, consistent and nearly MLB-ready.
I hate signatures, but I love irony.

At this point, if we are trading Chase Utley it makes sense to go for real lower level high ceiling lottery ticket guys who don't need to go on the 40 man roster for a couple of years. Just my opinion.

There's going to be a lot of debate about that 40 man come the offseason. A lot of our new upper level depth will need to be added.

That's good, right? Now they can deal with any team instead of just the claiming team?

I can think of four teams in the PO race that could use him right now-Angels, Dodgers, Giants and Yankees. This could get interesting. Probably get a mid level prospect in return. I'd look for an arm rather than a bat.

Like Ty Blach from the Giants? I think I'd burn my Utley jersey if he gets traded to the Giants. I despise that team. Them, the Cards and the Barves. Hate those 3.

If he goes, I don't care where he goes. What I care about is what comes back. If the Giants make the best offer, he's theirs. BTW, I'd take Kyle Crick from them. He's hit a wall in the Giants organization but he has potential.

Yup, but he still has a FNTC and has to agree to any deal

well, whomever comes back in return needs to have cleared waivers too, right? So I'm not so sure we'll see anything that will justify the deal.

If the player isn't on the 40 man roster they don't have to clear waivers.
