Interesting story with Loewen for those that don't know his history: he was drafted #4 overall in 2002 (2 picks ahead of Greinke and 3 ahead of Fielder) as a pitcher/1B, Baltimore kept him as a pitcher and he sucked and always got hurt, the team wanted to convert him to a position player due to his injuries but his contract said he had to stay in the majors, he moved on to other teams as an OF/1B, then he signed with the Phils last year and went back to pitching again

So he's a better version of Joe Savery who was drafted 13 spots ahead of Cole Hamels.

He's going to be 32 in October. No thanks. That two-year difference between him and David Price is a world of difference. We don't need another potentially crippling contract popping up in 2019, right when the team could be really clicking again.

but we have more money than God.

But I'm not sure if I want him or not. He's just so good right now. On the other hand, I don't see much difference between him and Halladay when you consider we had to give up prospects for halladay.

Odubel Herrera is a great argument for the existence of the minor leagues

Was someone arguing against their existence?

Only the Phillies could screw up this season by catching fire and losing the #1 pick.

The commissioner ought to step in and tell Loria that under no circumstances do the Marlins get the top pick in the draft. The price for deliberately fielding an uncompetitive team and mismanaging a franchise while taking money from MLB. There needs to be a spending floor for the clubs and if they go below that there are sanctions. Loria has basically stealing money from the game for years.

I admire the passion but the Marlins did not deliberately tank this year.
