* I will politely disagree with this. Bastardo was a classic loogy (3.54 / 1.36 WHIP) that you find in many places. Rollins is washed up he's batting .223 even after a nice run lately with a .640 OPS and his classic 11 HRs because he's trying to be a stud. Byrd is a joke of a journeyman who floats around and is a decent player for a non playoff team. Revere? Laughable.

Papelbon is a legit piece and Hamels is a stud - but for people to see our veterans as valuable when we sucked - was fortuitous.

No offense, but the bolded statement is stupid as hell.

Not to mention he was a 10 win player between 2012-2014.

BR has him at 6.7 over those 3 years, which still isn't that bad. He was a 4 win player last year and the Phillies moved him at the right time and got an above average prospect

Utley's going to to take Kenley Jansen deep in the deciding game of a playoff series. It's going to be glorious, and heartbreaking.

My distaste for the Giants has gotten to the point where I'd rather see him as a Yankee.

Middle school/high school me would be appalled at that.

I know a lot of people are down on Howard for his contract, but losing Howard will be tough too. I love that guy for everything he's done in Philly.

Losing Utley to SF will suck no doubt, but then again so did Rollins to LA. Same with Hamels.

I can't speak for anyone else. I just thought his constant injuries were to the point that he would retire. He doesn't seem to want to leave and he won't win again here. This was just my guess though. I could be completely wrong and you may be right that he wants to keep playing. As much as I hate the dodgers, I could stomach them winning a title if JRoll and Utley led them to it.

I'm down an Amaro for Howard's contract. I'm down on Howard for his performance. .234 / .303 / .422 over the last 4 years (1666 PA).

Don't see how anything we'd get back for him right now would be that much more valuable than making sure he stays and retires a Phillies.

I just don't think he ever recovered fully from the Achilles injury. It sucks but his run was amazing and cannot be ignored.

I need to write an email to Carlton Loewer.

He signed my only Phillies baseball cap 17 years ago. It fell apart over the years, and it doesn't feel right to wear a hat without his signature on the brim. I found out he's a real estate agent in Jackson Hole. So like I said, i need to write an email to Carlton Loewer.

I think I'd rather see him as a Met. At least they have the decency to be mediocre when they are, in fact, mediocre.

What I am saying is I would burn down AT&T Park if I could.

I don't see how having him sit for the legendary Cesar Hernandez or taking at bats from him is doing anyone any good.

I too thought he might just retire, but he looks healthy and energized since he came back. He deserves to play for a winner.

If he's healthy, he's valuable to someone. Trade him for our and his sake. He wants to find out how much he has left in the tank. We owe it to him and ourselves to trade him.

Don't want anything less than a top 5 or 6 prospect from the Giants...otherwise we're just giving him away. Their system is pretty barren.

These and pacino's are both good points. Obviously this is a heart versus head argument and you can tell which part I'm coming from; and I know I'm probably on the wrong side. I guess I also just think that he deserves to be one of those guys that's always remembered as being with just one team, untouchable, etc.; versus being traded for what will likely turn out to be just spare AAA parts.

Also, I don't know how much value the one-team thing even has anymore, either to him or how he'll be remembered. Talking about him like he's dead sucks. Sucks hard
