He'd be unstoppable with the Trumbull, CT Little League squad.

A batting title would increase his trade value.

Tulo probably won't have enough PAs to qualify, right? Otherwise Revere's just 7 points behind Puig and Matt Adams. Wow.

The epic season revere is having may be one of the sole reasons to continue to watch and follow the phillies for the remainder of the season. The dude is batting .309 yet his ops is .698. That is so #$!&@ amazing, it should be talked about for years. A highlight video both offensively and defensively of 2014 Ben revere should not only be produced, but in everyone's video library.

Btw... Whitey would've loved him, Hertzog that is.

Has anyone who ever qualified that batted over .300 have less than 20 RBI?
If it weren't for the 1890's he would also have some sort of record for the least amount of extra base hits too.

In my search for this level of awesome ineptitude, I searched the usual suspects, Juan Pierre, Omar Moreno, Vince Coleman and I found in strike shortened 1981 willie Wilson to possess nearly identical awesome ineptitude. And damn did Omar Moreno suck!

Last in the league in BB% too. He's really a 1.5/5 tool player.

However, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that a deal is almost certainly not going to happen. The Phillies, according to Wittenmyer’s sources, have asked the Cubs for one of their prized young shortstops as the centerpiece to a trade. Because both Starlin Castro and Javier Baez are already on the 40-man roster and would therefore be subject to revocable waivers themselves, Addison Russell (and others) is the likely asking price, according to Wittenmye

Normally I would think that one of the guys he is chasing, Matt Adams, was having a remarkable year. For a "batting champion" contender to have only 11 walks and 75 strikeouts must be pretty unusual. but Revere still manages to stand out compared to him.

does anyone remember when sandberg got swept up in a foot race as a consequence of getting lost on his way to the park? that story pretty much sums up this season for me

also, howard is too soft. he is too guarded and self conscious when asked how he feels about something. you can tell he has a lot of negative feelings including especially towards the fans and possibly the team itself or even himself and yet only makes really weak equivocations of his true thoughts to the media. it's one of the main reasons he's struggled

again, the defense is a problem, perhaps an irresolvable one, and low walk rates combined with lack of power are hard to overcome. however, its frustrating that so many folks here still seem to deny the fact that a high-but-empty batting average can be a real, sustainable, and valuable skill, especially when it is attributable to elite speed and contact numbers. revere is as close to the bottom of the list of 100+ pa players in k-rate as he is walk rate, and the speed supports the high babip, which supports a high average, which supports medium obp, which is highly leveraged because of his baserunning.

i went through this all years ago with shore and other's in arguing about polanco before he was traded away just in time to miss out on his years of averaging 3.5+ war with the tigers. with polanco it was contact and defense. with revere it is contact and speed. the former is a better bet to last than the latter, but still it remains wrong to devalue real, measurable skills outside of walks and power.

that, to me, is a more important point of argument than whether or not revere should be on the phils or is good or bad.

@PWSullivan
Cole Hamels pulled back from waivers. Cubs gave it a shot but couldn't agree on deal.

If anyone wants tickets to the game tonight give me a private message and we can work something out. I'm not to be able to make it to Philly.

I agree wholeheartedly, but I'll let you fight the good fight as I devolve too quickly into mother-in-law jokes.

Somewhere on the island tomorrow night. Most likely Andres, Laguna, Cellar, or George's. Don't think I missed any. Can probably head out for the game tomorrow.
