Really want to see the team send Byrd and Howard to Seattle, paying all but $5m per year on Howard's POS contract - Howard would still easily be the best DH on their roster (scary as that notion is) and has enough power to hit them out of Safeco. With DHing only, maybe he gets his legs back, but at only $5m per year Seattle can cut him after next year w/o too much pain.

The Phillies money will only be useful if they use it to offload the declining vets on the roster for some real prospects. Sending $60m with Howard and Byrd should net at least a decent prospect or two.

I really don't have a good handle on Byrd's trade value. But I would be interested in Nick Franklin (as an Utley replacement). Or Ackley. I could also see the Phillies having to throw in Bastardo or a reliever to get that done though. I could see the Phillies being interested in Low A outfielder Austin Wilson since they were linked to him both times he got drafted.

Ackley reminded me so much of Utley when we were out there a few years ago. My all time "good face" misjudgment to this point
