"Whatever their motive was, I don’t want to be involved. ... I wasn’t surprised. Whether their motive was to rub it in the Pirates’ faces, I don’t know. I think it was just more of a gesture to commemorate those two teams getting back together in the postseason. But I’ll stay neutral. I’m not going to do anything to tell the fans in Atlanta or Pittsburgh that I’m one way or the other."

The problem with Glanville's argument is that if you don't want your season to come down to a 1 game playoff, then you should go out and win your division. Yeah, there's nothing "fair" about a one game deal--a team with one ace might beat a superior team in such a scenario, but it's good for fans, and that's what matters.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, the one game system does reward the team who has the best regular season record in the league, because they play a team that's had to play an extra game. This is good--it's sort of old school.

I like two wild cards, I just think they should play a 3 game series at the home of the team with the better record. Make time for this by doing away with one-game playoffs to determine wild card and division winners in the event of ties. Use a tie-breaking system like the NFL (head-to-head - this REALLY should be used to break divisional ties, given that these teams play 18-19 games against one another - if at the end of the season two are tied for a division, don't toss out 18-19 results in favor of a one-game playoff for heaven's sake - then record vs. division, record vs. common opponents, etc.)
