This is a fair point, I am pretty excited for this game, although I wish the Cardinals were the team subjected to a one-and-done. The rust belt needs good things to happen, and fuck the Cardinals.

I could even get behind a season where the Cubs take the division and manage to keep the Cards out of the whole thing, even though I'm sure Cubs fans would be even worse than Red Sox fans should such a thing happen.

It's nice he's been able to overcome his accent and land a job like that.

My thought on the Wild Card round is three games over two days. 5 seed hosts first game and 4 seed hosts a doubleheader (if necessary) the second day.

The only problem is that you're asking the other six teams to sit around until Friday or Saturday for their first game (since the wildcard series would be staggered between TUE-WED and WED-THU for TV), and you can't start the #2/#3 series while the wildcard ones are going on or else the winners of those series could potentially be sitting around a week waiting for #1 or the WC to join them in the LCS

I also don't care for the idea of the lower seeded team getting the first home game. They use to let the WC get the first two games at home in a best-of-five, and I always thought that gave a major unfair advantage to the WC team over the team they were playing.

Let's go soccer rules. 2 leg series home and away. Keep aggregate score over 18 innings. Away runs break the tie. If still tied, extra innings.

i think all this one-game backlash is forgetting why it's there: to make winning the division much more meaningful, instead of the wildcard fallback being pretty much the same. I think in this case the cure is NOT worse than the disease. and no, i didn't read the glanville article and maybe he acknowledges the reason for the single-game.

Not sure how a single game wild card makes winning the division more attractive than winning the division would be if you had a three-game wild card series instead.

you really think that's the reason as opposed to more tv and ticket revenue and keeping more fanbases interested longer?

Well, it's the reason I like it.

And anything that helps avoid November baseball is okay by me too.

Compared to a three-game wild card series it does

I think if you play it as 3 game series all @ Wild Card #1 (giving some reason to actually BE the first wild card as getting home field for a single game doesn't seem like a big deal to me) and play it MON-TUES-WED, then the rest can still start at the same time. Ditch the tiebreaker game like moz said and go off regular season record. If a team is 5-1 versus the team they're tied with, then fuck the other team; play better during the regular season then.

edit: oy vey, this would have not sorted out the Texas-Tampa deal as they, for whatever reason, played 8 games head-to-head and both were 4-4. I guess you could just do it the way the NFL does it and figure out various tiebreakers from there, like overall record in the AL and things like that.
