CSN Houston is asking for $3.40 per subscriber and the other carriers are balking (and did so throughout the Rockets last season, as well). Here's the problem, supposedly the CSN Houston financials ONLY work if they get this amount or nearly this amount, so Comcrap can't really negotiate the price.

On a different note, the channel is on 30-40% of Houston televisions, so Astros ratings really blow even accounting for the carriage issue.

You know that gadabout Gattis cat, the braves guy? He has some great story like he was homeless and lived in Jewel's car or something.

Anyways, he stinks. He is hitting like .198 since may and he doesn't walk either. He hits long homers. But he's a lousy catcher and a worse outfielder.

Bottom line. Stinky.

Say a guy who was drafted in the 21st round has a pretty good year as a reliever (lowest ERA on the team, 1.3 WHIP but was not a closer) in the Pioneer League--does he get another chance in the pros, or should he finish his degree in the Spring semester?

1.3 WHIP is not good and in fact pretty shitty for a reliever

that being said, he can finish his degree at any age; he only has a limited window to explore his baseball potential

It would be kewl if the Phils signed a 29 year old pitcher who mostly has had ERAs in the high 4's to the low 6's for the last five seasons and who has also been hurt a lot.

Someone like Francisco Liriano.

Jeff would start a really awesome thread about how dumb Amaro is and we'd have fun all year.

That would be kewl.

He was 11th in the Cy Young in 2010.

If there's anyone in the top 11 of either league Cy Young balloting from 2011, who has averaged more than a strikeout per inning in 140 starts, and is under 30, that we can sign for like 2 years / $12M, I think Jeff'd be OK with it.

If you don't believe it, why not take a chance on Liriano? Or sign Carlos Villanueva? There were so many better options. This is both safe and worthless, which is almost impossible to accomplish.

From the John Lannan thread, which worked out exactly as expected

Exactly... John Lannan is the polar opposite of Liriano.

I'm not even really arguing that Amaro should have signed Liriano. More that signing someone like Lannan for the same amount is a devastating to me. Lannan is pointless. Fungible. No possible upside. Liriano is all upside. We need more upside.
