Cabrera is god but his numbers were even better with Fielder in the lineup, compared to both his career averages as well as just his time in Detroit when he became one of the most elite players in the game. That's not a coincidence to me.

Cabrera's OPS in 2 years with Fielder was 1.037
His OPS in the 2 years prior to Fielder was 1.038. His main "protectors" were Brennan Boesch in 2010, and Victor Martinez in 2011.

Nitpicking numbers aside, I want dangerous hitters in my lineup. Kinsler is not.

(And yea Prince had a down year but he is 29. I don't think this is the start of a precipitous decline)

I'd be worried about that if I were a Rangers fan. For 7/136M? I know he's been durable, but so was Howard until he wasn't

no snark intended, and maybe this is going too far back, but the most recent one that i can remember was garza going from the twins for delmon young back when he was a bat-throwing super prospect and not yet a known anti-semitic fat asshole who couldn't take a walk

i feel like if our only real strength is going for the big splash and throwing unlimited financial resources around, then we should be looking to acquire players in similar deals like the tex/det and not have to give up anything earth-shattering (not like we have much considered earth shattering). also, sign TATANKA

Fielder will be 30 next season. In the 4 seasons prior to age 30, his father missed a total of 18 games. Over the course of his age 30 & 31 seasons he missed 79 games. For age 30-33 seasons he was a slightly above-average hitter as his OPS+ slowly dropped from 114 to 101. In his age 34 season he posted an 86 OPS+ in 117 games. By age 35 he was out of the game. Prince's OPS+ has dropped the last 2 season to 124 in 2013. His father's OPS+ at age 29 was 120.

The sins of the father are not always visited on the son. But, given his performance over the past two seasons and his body type, I think further decline and the end will come pretty quickly for Prince.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #STLCards, #Angels have discussed a trade that would send 3B David Freese to Anaheim.

Is the implication that $16m for a 36 y/o, one good yr, CF and three guaranteed years (and $26m) to a soon-to-be 35 y/o catcher with one career 400 ab season is NOT creative? I would suggest it took enormous creativity to justify those contracts.

The Rangers should have just traded for Billy Butler. There is no reason to take on the Fielder contract.

Giants resign Javier Lopez, 3/13. Nice to see someone else do it.

LHP Jason Vargas gets 4/$32M from the Royals. He's like a better version of Lannan as I recall
