The head groundskeeper for the Brewers is leaving to take a spot with the St. Louis Cardinals.

This is devastating!

huddy seems like a good guy, even more so now that he's not a barve. any idea if he threw for teams to show he was healthy, etc?

I don't really find those results encouraging. 17 WAR per 7 year period (2.4 per year for ages 30-36) screams "average" to me. 90 out of the 140 players (64%) that qualified for the batting title this year had 2.4 or more WAR. Martin Prado (.282 / .333 / .417, 14 HR, 70 RBI, 3 SB in 664 PA while playing slightly above average defense at 3B (and LF, and slightly below at 2B) was a 2.4 WAR player this year. It's like the definition of average.

The same guys averaged 4.3 WAR per year from ages 27-29, so they lost 44% of their annual value from their peak years to their 30s. That sounds like a disaster, to me.

Some day, I'll have the time and energy to fight the WAR * $6M = VALUE!!! thing that seems to be going around to justify contracts.

Josh Johnson has narrowed his list to four NL teams: the Pirates, Giants, Padres and a mystery team. He's only looking for a 1-year deal so he can rebuild his value and jump back into FA again next offseason

You have to assume the mystery team plays in a good pitcher's park like Seattle or the Mets.

One of those is more likely than the other.

Wouldn't mind him here depending on price.

I mean, listen, I really get it, you're trying to dump Fielder because his contract is generally an albatross. But he's not awful, and you're taking on $57M for Kinsler over the next four years plus a $5M buyout in the fifth year, and he's got a lot to prove to say that he's not on the decline.

Just spitballin' here but Fielder was down to .815 OPS Last year too. Miggy might have to move to first or DH and they already have Victor Martinez who has to DH. Can Castellanos play 3B or is he relegated to OF?
