Why would he get ripped for that?

The mood in the clubhouse was one of acceptance: the Phillies are not going to win a title this year, and a 12-4 stinker to the Tigers underscored just how far away they are from contending. Michael Young did not rule out the possibility of waiving his no-trade clause -- the veteran third baseman seems likely to get traded to a contender. Short stop Jimmy Rollins said he would not waive his complete no-trade clause. "There are still a couple things I would like to be number one on the lists of in this organization," Rollins said, "so until those things are done, I'm not going anywhere."

Because it comes across as a me-first quote.

Let me the first to say I don't care about what Rollins said one bit.

he's certainly earned the right to say that and stay here if he wants. he shouldn't be one of the first guys jettisoned anyway and considering there have been zero rumblings about him being moved i'd say it's a non-issue anyway.

but it's fair to say that some people will/should. if rollins is going to be an impediment to rebuilding - even a small one - then he's showing himself to be exactly the kind of player that he's always been criticized as being: selfish

6 more caught stealings and he is #1 (Bowa).

He needs to be hit by 128 more pitches to pass Utley (+ any Utley HBP from now on).

22 more triples to pass Magee.

285 more runs to pass Schmidt.

108 more hits and he passes Schmidt and Ashburn.

It always bothers me when players don't put the team ahead of themselves by agreeing to be traded away from the team that they are supposed to be loyal to.

I doubt there are many players who don't put themselves first when all is said and done. Most don't say so.

He deserves tons of slack for the "We're the team to beat" type comments alone.

Also for the at bat vs. Broxton in the ninth that time.

"Bruntlett will score. Here comes Ruiz with the winning run!"

Jimmy's contract isn't awful so I don't think he gets traded. With that said, those firsts ain't happening anytime soon with the way Jimmy is hitting.

The fans and media have given Jimmy a pass this season but he's been mediocre at best.

I got no problems with Rollins' comments.

Papelbon, on the other hand, can go get fucked

Papelbon comments:

So then what about this team's ability to turn things around, if not this season, then next season?

"It's going to take, in my opinion, a lot," he said. "And in my opinion, I think it's going to have to be something very similar to what the Red Sox went through a couple years ago. From top to bottom."

I have no problem with the quote, he's an all time Phil, and wants to go out here is how I read it. Wouldn't it be more selfish to be saying "I want outta here for another shot at a ring!"?

I agree to some extent, but it is a bit stupid to say it.

They need to trade Papelbon back to Boston where he belongs.

We need to trade him to the Nats and have him and Dom get into a Wagner/Burell rivalry
