Ruiz and Kendrick, I guess. Though it seems like the winter (after seeing MAG and Halladay pitch) could be the time to trade a starting pitcher

I do think Lee is in play, though.

Kendrick is an interesting decision. The Phils have control over him with one final year of arbitration. I wouldn't be surprised if that arbitration figure reaches $10MM. For the Phils, that may be too much with the other things they want to do but for another team, he may be intriguing because they'll have rights to him beyond this year. He might bring back the best return for us this deadline season.

So because of the bloated contracts given out by Rube's Home for the Aged and Semi-Ambulatory, we trade a reasonably-compensated SP with only a one-year commitment.

This is why Amaro didn't want to be a seller, because there is nothing he is willing to sell or anything he wants to sell nobody wants. (Delmon, Ruiz, Paps)

Papelbon to the Tigers is undoubtedly now totally dead (if it ever was live) - just dealt for Jose Veras from the Astros (gave their preseason #4 prospect in return - an OF with a solid hit tool and average power, apparently)

I just looked at the Papelbon contract again. I'd forgotten about the 2016 vesting option. Fuck me.

I don't believe it for a second that 76erfan wouldn't have sex with Utley.

Maybe a team will claim Papelbon on wavers.

I liked the poster's idea who said leave them both in Detroit and hope that they get discharged with Detroit's bankruptcy proceedings.

i am more thinking we need new blood on this team and coming back with howard, utley and rollins doesnt cut it. Rollins is the one really screwing this up with his NTC.

I love utley but with his knees a ????...I am fearful of amaro overpaying.

Team doesnt need tweaks..needs more than that.

Howard may well be part of a productive platoon. We will have at least one new outfielder and a new third baseman. Possibly someone new at catcher.

That's on top of Brown and Revere. That's a lot of new blood. What they need is an impact bat, and I don't see one out there that's a better fit at 2B, all things considered, than Utley. If we ditched Rollins, Galvis may match his value, maybe not.

The Gonzalez signing gives them some flexibility with the rotation both this week and in the offseason.

There's no reason to think that RAJ is actually trying to move Rollins.

From Heyman's Bull and Bear market stuff (Pence is a bull)

1. Hunter Pence, OF, Giants: Pence will draw interest from at least the Pirates and Rangers and could land the Giants more than they gave up to acquire him. Catcher Tommy Joseph was the main piece to Philadelphia in that deal, and he's having a rough year from a health standpoint.

I really really hope the Giants get more for Pence than they gave up. Some people need obvious examples to believe.
