Amaro should try to build a mega package with Lee, MY, and Papelbon. We take on a good deal of money for the option of building a package around Bogaerts

It's not even factual. The game is over once you kill all the enemies buildings. Rube is more like the guy who has a sole probe running around building pylons all over the map.

My guess is Red Sox are floating this for purposes of leverage with White Sox on Peavy.

Zach Mortimer of BP writes this a good return for Lee:

Cardinals: Wong, Wacha, Jenkins
Red Sox: Bradley Jr., Owens, Coyle.

because isn't the idea to get the best value for him? obviously, 3/$75MM is no big deal to a team like BOS. but if you have money to burn with this magical TV deal that's coming, entice mid-market teams like OAK and PIT into the mix by picking up some of the contract. i'll reserve judgement till the deadline since it was just one report...but it bothers me that that's even floated out there.

they're borderline fair. you'd have to move wong for something else of use at some point. realken said earlier that the cards were the only team interested not on his no trade list.

The amount of money needed to entice teams like Oakland and Pittsburgh into the race negates half the point of trading him. To get those teams in, you'd probably need to pick up at least half the tab, and I don't think either of those teams would part with enough of a prospect haul to make it worth carrying around 10-15 mill of dead money around.

The idea isn't to get the best value for him. This isn't an auction where everything must go. You don't have to trade him in the next 3 days unless you're absolutely terrified he's going to get hurt this season and kill his value, which is just no way to run a baseball team. The idea is to get proper value for him. That includes getting a prospect haul that compares to what we're losing in our #1 starter, as well as getting Lee's contract off the books. If you have to kick in a few million, as long as you're getting a prospect haul, so be it. But wanting any buyer to take Lee's full freight isn't an absurd request at all.

Doubt lee is clamoring to play at the Oakland coliseum anyway.
