Yep, a lot of people don't remember when Torre was hired before the '96 season the majority of the NY media blasted Steinbrenner for hiring a "nobody" and giving a respectable guy like Showalter the boot.

I'm going to Radio Shack to buy one of those headsets like the broadcasters use. It seems as soon as you put them on, you get 100 times smarter.

Nick knows of a 5 WAR managerial candidate that can successfully swap Brown and Howard in the lineup, put Diekman in the 7th instead of Horst, and platoon Mayberry with Delmon so we can finally start our playoff push.

He can still be a great manager and not the right manager for this team, can't he?

Charlie is pretty terrible. He was given So Taguci and Eric Bruntlett and Pedro Feliz and Adam Eaton and Raul Ibanez and Paul Bako and Wilson Valdez and Ross Gload.

He should have won seven or eight World Series with those guys. He's just not Imaginative enough.

Lol. Omg.

false dichotomy going on here. It isn't "It's all Rube and his shitty moves" or "Charlie is ruining this team." Talent wise this team is mediocre at best, but Charlie's insistence on sticking with veterans has pretty definitively been a negative so far.

For the a lot of us on here this run produced the only championship we've ever experienced. I love Charlie. Love him.

Torre was given David Wells, David Cone, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera. He's so smart!

Wasn't responding to your post, just to Smitty's post making the point that the talent provided to the manager dictates how smart or great of a manger he is for the most part.

I agree with your assessment though.

Hernandez can only play 2B. Galvis can play all over. When/if Utley ever comes back, Galvis will go back to super utility and mini-mart goes back to Sheboygan or whatever. Hernandez needs to play every day.

Along with Dom's re-found power stroke, he's also showing that speed, stealing bases at a nice clip now.

"I believe you have to have a closer to win and have success, and I believe in having a [true] closer. Not a closer by committee. A guy who stops the game when you're supposed to win late. We don't have a replacement to do that. ... And I don't see any closer on the market who would be anywhere near as good as Papelbon. I just don't see it. So if you want to win, why would we want to trade a guy like that?"

Thanks Ruben.

Then the the tigers offer you a 21 year old impact bat at a position of need and you're like "ok i guess we can try to find someone else".
