The idea that Charlie is somehow holding this team back from accomplishing what they otherwise could is dumb.

I agree with this. The only way this would be true is if he has lost control of the team and there's no evidence of that. None. His in game management is pretty much standard manager in game management. He is actually better than most as he has been very Sabermetricaly (i have no idea how to spell that) correct during his Phillies tenure.

This team is not good. It doesn't really do anything well right now and it's really bad in some important areas.

It's possible the team could improve. The bullpen has lost a lot of games. Bullpens are funny. This current version could completely turn it around henceforth. It's happened before.

Hamels and Lee and Kendrick can start winning most of their starts. They can get adequate work out of whoever their back end starters are.

Ruiz and Utley can come back and lead the offense back to respectability.

It's not likely these things will happen.

If it did though, Charlie would go back to being a really good manager.

Managering is a funny game.

Yup.

I think Charlie's time has past, but this team isn't going anywhere in 2013. And he deserves a hell of a lot better treatment than an ignominious mid-season firing.

this current team looks nothing like the 2008-2011 teams. this team requires creativity and tinkering. charlie is not creative, and hes not an in game strategist.

when we were bludgeoning teams, he didn't need to think a lot about how to outsmart the other manager. now he has less to work with it, he needs to be more creative, and its just not happening.

i dont think any rational person would belittle what he accomplished here. he presided over our best run in franchise history. but all good things come to an end. hes not compatible with this current team.

I agree with this. But I also don't think it remotely matters enough to justify firing him in-season.

Then again, I'm almost at the point of rooting for a protected pick next June. 90 losses might be a better thing than 80.

As for the intangible stuff ... even if you're right ... he's been tremendous with that over the years. You really need his head now rather than October?

G, who fills out the lineup card? Who makes the in game moves? You can't hold Amaro responsible for these things. The addition of Mini Mart and not Fields is on Rube but most of the stuff is on Charlie. Yes, I do want him gone now. His lackadaisical attitude towards things is detrimental to the success of the club. Additionally, if/when Amaro does move some of these vets, Charlie is going to raise hell about it. He probably will set their replacement(s) up to fail to show everyone that he knew better.

I'm sure you have examples of this, since it's "probably" going to happen.

Pinch running Mini Mart for Howard. Then, later, with the game on the line it Mini Mart at bat. Then complaining about a lack of offense. Pitching relievers too frequently and then ragging about the weak BP. Really gave Hernandez a shot at 2B. Could have put him in and just played the guy. Instead, he uses him sporadically (shades of D. Brown in the past). He is the best player that the Phillies have at LV.

If Nick Leyva had had the players to use that Manuel has had, we'd be singing the praises of the Great Nick. In the history of the game, few managers have had the lineups to use that Manuel has had here and in Cleveland and done as little with them.

This web site has gone full retard. HE WENT TO BACK-TO-BACK FUCKING WORLD SERIES and beat out omg playoff genius Joe Torre (and a roided out of his mind Manny Ramirez) in the process to get there. Then in 2010 and 2011, they had the best record in all of baseball which this shit-tastic franchise never even did one time before.
