adding greinke, fowler, and youkilis is my preferred option assuming unlimited payroll.
greinke should be almost a win more valuable than hamilton in 2013, and many more after that, and the argument for hamilton as a headcase is pretty strong too.

yes really. you seem to be applying career numbers to a player going into his prime in the same way as you do to a player exiting his prime, which would not be appropriate. especially since he had injury issues in some of those seasons, which now seem to be resolved. and having followed the rockies since day one (attended their first home opener) i can assure you that home-road stats do not consistently predict how a player will perform when coors stops being his home field. for some guys, the switching from high to low altitude and back screws up their road performance as much as it enhances their home performance. and don't forget that a large fraction of the rockies road games are in san diego, san francisco, and la, all of which have run suppressing park factors.

O'Dowd is awful so you never know what to expect. They were trying to trade him all the time before last season happened. set your sights higher (lower?) talk him down to kendrick+may.

Try to get Jason Bay to sign a minor league deal. If he continues to suck, no harm no foul. I'm willing to throw anything against the wall at this point.

He also confirmed they're very interested in Michael Young, but the Rangers have denied he's available.

On a more cheerful note, he said Rube told him that it was possible Asche could be ready sometime in 2013.

Youkilis probably wants a 2-3 year deal & Young is for 1 year. Asche will be ready for 2014.

I'm not for it, but I think I can understand it. If Asche's going to be ready soon and you're looking for something very short-term, and you can get Young cheaply (both in terms of players and salary) you might catch lightening in a bottle for a short run with Young. He's only one year removed from a 125 OPS+.

They're apparently serious about getting under the luxury tax limit by 2014, and could use Gardner in CF. Maybe losing Swisher and Granderson would open the door for Hamilton...

I don't get the Young thing, either. Seems like sometimes we get fixated on a guy for too long.

Still had a nearly .800 OPS against lefties last year. It's....well, something.

And I guess if Frandsen or Galvis is the utility guy who plays once or twice a week you're essentially swapping Young in for MiniMart

With Hamilton's past, Im not sure New York is the best place for him to play. That would be interesting though.
