I would have been cool with 4/$40 for Pagan but you can't blame Amaro for scoffing at it

Probably would have needed to go significantly higher to get him to leave

We need Hamilton. He's the only real badass available via free agency. There aren't that many opportunities to add a hitter of his caliber without giving up boatloads of prospects. Sure, he's risky, but 2017 doesn't matter to me right now.

edit: I realize I've contradicted myself in four sentences, but I still want Hamilton.

Sign Hamilton. Deal with the ramifications later. Win now while you will still get something out of the old core of this team

Buster Olney, Jerry Crasnick, Danny Knobler and others now jumping on the "Phillies running out of options" bandwagon.

Just wait til we sign Hamilton.

aside from any trades, it's going to be hamilton right now as plan A, with swisher pulling up the rear next

Phillies have been too quiet. Ruben is doing something sneaky. No doubt about it.

More and more, I am coming around to this point of view. Ideally, we would be able to re-build on the fly but that doesn't seem realistic. Just load up as much as possible for the next three years, hope to get hot at the right time and win a title or two, then trade Hamels and anyone else of value over 30, and rebuild for when the post-Howard, Hamilton, etc. contracts are up.

And guys close to Pagan caliber can be acquired in July for next to nothing. Hell, we saw it this year with Victorino.

Use FA to sign the elite guys. Use the trade market to fill the gaps for relievers and non-elite players.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

Crasnick says the Reds aren't in on Bourn. Not sure why everyone else is writing about this high price if there are no suitors

Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst

Keep hearing people speculate about Josh Hamilton to #Phillies. But if I had to pick a word to describe their interest, "wary" covers it.

Perhaps there are no suitors because of his price

I don't even know what I want to happen at this point (other than Hamilton). I'm don't want Pagan but I'm afraid that him going to SF means a massive overpay for Bourn. Help.

I heard/read somewhere that Bourn is seeking a 100 mil contract.

Victorino supposedly has a bunch of suitors (Red Sox, Indians, Rays, Reds, Rangers, Yankees). Maybe if we offer the 3/30 and tell him Chooch has teh Adderall...
