Oh no. I can't be this old, can I?

The Marlins purchased the contract of 23-year-old catcher Rob Brantly. Brantly, who came over in a trade from Detroit last month, idolizes Phillies All-Star catcher Carlos Ruiz.

“Growing up, Carlos Ruiz was the man,” said Brantly, a San Diego native who was drafted out of UC-Riverside. “I always thought defensively he was very sound. I love trying to emulate his technique.”

Guy was 17 when Carlos came up into the bigs, if he's not an iron pifs fan he doesn't understand how time works.
So far the Eagles have been unable willing to at least make a good will jester - Garry Cobb, Professional Sportswriter

I was expecting more analysis, but nice gifs from that centerfield camera. Really gives an idea of how the change seems to float in.

That CF camera of the Marlins' broadcast is pretty nice. Much better to see where the pitch actually went. The only good thing about the Marlin broadcast other than the baloney show.

If it helps, a Cole Hamels fastball has ~12 inches of “rise”. If you want to think of that pitch as being “flat”, the changeup “drops” ~three inches. It’s that plus the speed differential that makes hitters look bad.

coolstands predicts 90 wins for the cards and 89 for the p-rats. to get to 90 wins, the phils need to finish an absurd 36-10 (.783 win percentage). first examples of such finishes i could find were the 2001 and 2002 a's.
i found those because i still remember the a's amazing 20-game win streak that one august.

so i guess there really is hope.

They've made-up three games since 7/31/2012.

If they can someone makeup 3 or 4 more games during this stretch and jump New York & Arizona as Dave mentioned, September will be a fun month.
