Phillies thoughts of the random persuasion

Cardinals ask for permission to interview Sandberg, Phillies will grant according to RealKen.

I don't know if I can handle that, although it's a nice F-U to the Cubs.

Not sure why the Cubs would want to hire Sandberg: it's a bit like dating your best friend. It'll ruin the friendship. Eventually, because they are the Cubs, something will go wrong, Sandberg will be fired, and he'll have to reconcile with ownership 20 years from now when he has esophageal cancer and is weeks from death.

On the other hand, Sandberg is a sweet piece of ass.

Reports are that Epstein has actually come out and told Sandberg (through the Phillies) that they will not be interviewing him for the vacancy.

I'd seriously give thought to offering Sandberg a coaching spot and promising to give him the manager's spot and move Charlie upstairs in a year or two...

Speaking of irrational fan support for former players as managers, we should offer Wally Backman 5mm per year to be the bat boy just for Gees reaction

He seemed to do a good job for the Pigs last year and I believe he was successful with the Cubs minor league team he coached.

Zo agrees

I believe if Mackanin gets hired somewhere, the Phillies would promote Sandberg as his replacement. The Phillies love Sandberg. In fact, I think if Sandberg somehow remains with the organization he would be a front runner to replace Charlie Manuel once his contract expires and he decides he has had enough of managing.

Stark twattered that the phills should be "kicking the tires on Sizemore" fwiw.

Edit actual tweet below

I expect them to kick those tires. RT @B_McGLOCK
A move that makes sense for the phillies, grady sizemore for 1 year incentive-laden deal

That deal makes sense for a lot of teams.
