We said the same thing the last two off seasons. He's a ~.780 OPS bat at this point at his best.

RE: Napalm. Yea, fine I'm a pessimist. What reason do you have for being optimistic other than for optimism's sake?

Raul I'm happy to be done with, just not sure how big of a boost we're going to get from his replacement (same with Polanco)

baseball is a funny game?

i'm not sure, i'm just being an optimist for optimisms sake, and that its november so i'd rather see how the pieces fall into free agency and into spring training.

The Nats will go after everybody this offseason. I have a feeling they are going to be a thorn in the side of the Phils.

So same as this year. I'm very sure we can count on more production in left field, pretty confident that we'll end up with either Rollins or someone as productive as Rollins, and mildly hopeful we'll end up with improvement at third base, although I don't know what form that will take. And there's always the chance Rube will pull off some sort of coup, although it would be the first time offensively.

Why do you expect them to be worse?

Edit: Well there you go, Thome at third base. Check off one whale at least.

i'd be happy with that. i'd actually be very happy with that as you then have the option to trade victorino. or have a ton of options in lf and 1b b/t mayberry/cuddyer/brown while we await the return of an HGH-laced ryan howard

Eh, I guess. Cuddyer's still reasonably effective. Just don't do something stupid like give him a bunch of years.

Doubt he'd sign right away for just a year or two coming off a solid season

I'm not encouraged by this rumor, esp since he apparently is not a viable option at 3B from all accounts

I could be sold on 3 years for Cuddyer, depending on the dollars. He could eventually become a super utility at CIF/COF/2B. His defense would be shit at a couple positions, but that's OK for a fill-in.

We've kind of got to stop paying for dudes' mid-30s years.

Polanco's deal was stupid. Ibanez's deal was stupid. Predictably so, in both cases.

3 years of Cuddyer is ages 33,34,35. His .246 / .288 / .412 year at age 34 is going to have us thrilled to pay for him the year after.

He made 10.5 and 9.4 the last 2 years... there's no FUCKING way I'm paying that kind of coin for 3 years to a no-position 33-year-old.

Pay him out the ass for a 1-year deal, tell him he can finally make a World Series. Overpay, I don't care. Play him at 3B, fine. Just don't commit to 3 years. Please.

He's not going to put up that kind of line at 34... Unless he has some sort of bad injury.

There's no way he's going to take a one-year deal after what he did last year.
