I wonder why Bell over Madson? I feel like Bell would cost more
Why not just go storm Normandy and get shot in the face while you're at it
Why not get a plumbing license and run around high on shrooms stealing peoples' pocket change

I think we all need a 8000 word post from floppy that shows us that the phillies can afford to sign pujols and Reyes.

The Phils will have one of the top-3 offenses in the NL next year.

I don't see us being significantly worse and maybe just a tad better than last year even with a conservative approach. But I'll admit this offseason feels a little more hopeless since last year one could realistically hope that one of Howard, Utley or Rollins could return to form.Tough to have a great offense with no great players. And great players are hard to come by.

Utley is a shell of himself, Howard who knows. Shane and Pence are the only 2 guys who will be plus bats in the line up. Maybe Mayberry, maybe Brown.

We're really gonna miss Raul Ibanez's sub-.300 OBP

I wouldn't be so quick to write off Utley. I'm hoping a good/healthy off-season will allow him to come back a bit stronger in the legs in 2012 even if he doesn't have the power he had a few years ago. I think he can be better next year than he was in 2011.

We said the same thing the last two off seasons. He's a ~.780 OPS bat at this point at his best.

RE: Napalm. Yea, fine I'm a pessimist. What reason do you have for being optimistic other than for optimism's sake?

Raul I'm happy to be done with, just not sure how big of a boost we're going to get from his replacement (same with Polanco)

First it was Howard is worth one win, now it's the 102-win Phills will suck without him

I think I've done my fair share of defending Howard, but he hasn't been great over his last 700 or so PAs and will be coming back from a major lower body injury for a big guy. I think it's pretty fair to be nervous about him
