regarding length of contract, 6/18 is 108 million. isn't worth 8 milion to to gamble that his age 33 and 34 seasons will be somewhat productive?

This team is all about Halladay, Lee (and hopefully Hamels) the next few years. A difference-making hitter has to be added to the mix.

And it's hard for me to see Amaro (who came into his first three offseasons with a World Series trophy, Roy Halladay, and Cliff Lee) rolling into Clearwater with Wilsom Betemit.

You don't see Utley past 2013? I think they do whatever it takes to resign him.

He's my favorite athlete ever, so I'm hoping he's playing well after 2013 and he re-signs here. I'm just saying the payroll isn't as inflexible as some would have you believe long-term

Yea I'm pretty sure we're going to be starting Hairstons and begging eckstein to come out of retirement in 2014

What

All I said is Utley isn't under contract beyond 2013. That does not, in and of itself, tip the scales toward signing Reyes, but the fact that the Phillies would want Utley back in a perfect world certainly doesn't preclude it.

i would love this deal, frankly

Tulo's deal is 7 years, 134 million. Reyes at 6/108 could be a huge bargain in comparison

Jesus I didn't realize the last year of Tulo's deal is a $15 club option for his age 36 season.

No but seriously, my inborn pessimism has me convinced that at some point soon we might be starting multiple LaRoches. I hate it. I see Utley's fly out in the 9th like every 5 minutes. Shit happens but I've got like 27 years of mind fuckery cock blocking my enjoyment of the most awesomest team with the biggest dick swinging GM in the universe.

I rather do something like this then have a 6 or 7 year deal.

How is 4/100 better than 6/112 or whatever? I don't think anyone has floated the idea of a 6/$130.

I had a dumb idea but ima gonna say it anyway. How feasible do you think it would be to sign Reyes, wait things out a bit, the if jimmy hadn't moved after chrimbo, suggest a two year deal with him at third base?

I think deep down you realize the position players aren't good enough anymore. I heart Utley, but his best days are behind him. Howard is just a guy at this point. Pence and Victorino are solid, but they're not likely to get better. Compare it to the Texas lineup. Kinsler, Hamilton, Napoli, Cruz - all better offensive players than anyone on our team. Beltre and Young don't suck either. We need to get better to win the WS and if that means there's a chance we might be terrible in 5 years, so be it.

Reyes is an elite talent. Let's do it.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

I didn't do serious calculations, I just threw out a number. The more likely scenario would be 4 years 100 million or 7 years in the 140 range. What would you rather do?

Wait, you think Reyes will make $25 mil a year making him the 2nd highest paid player per year in MLB (after ARod and tied with Howard, $1 mil more than Lee and presumably will be behind Pujols)?

Crawford got 7/142 (20.28), Texeira got 8/160 (20.00), Gonzalez got 7/154 (22.00), Tulowitzki got 10/158 (15.80), Werth got 7/126 (18.00), Holliday got 6/120 (20.00), Howard got 5/125 (25.00).

I'm thinking that Reyes will be around 4/90 (22.5) or 5/105 (21.00) or 6/120 (20.00) or 7/135 (19.28).

Me? I don't wait Reyes at all Im just saying if they sign him I rather have it be a bigger hit for 4 years instaed of an extremely long deal.
